Hey folks, just a request for opinions. We are looking for a couple of options for a 4 day anniversary trip from NC over Memorial Day. It is our 33rd and we want to just go do some sightseeing, decent meals, get some warmth. I have several hundred thousand Marriott points, so we would be looking at places that have a property, so we could use those for the hotel. We have been many times to DC, Charleston, Savannah, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, and other driving destinations in this area. We are decently positioned to the Charlotte airport, so flights would be pretty easy. A couple of places we have discussed are San Antonio, St.Augustine, and Marathon. Neither of us has been to these areas. Also was glancing at the Atlantis resort area. Feel free to make suggestions or thoughts. Many thanks! San Diego. Beaches, zoo, museums, beaches, restaurants, Sunday afternoon concert in Speckels Park, Coronado, and more besides. Yes, it is in Whackyland, but down on the fringe, you might say. Weather usually pretty decent. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I'll second the San Antonio suggestion. It's a fun town with a lot of very good Tex-Mex and BBQ restaurants. The Marriot downtown is just around the corner from the Alamo and the River Walk runs threw it so it's a perfect destination. Or, if you prefer historic, the Menger Hotel right next to the Alamo is very nice, too. It's enough time to take in a lot of the offerings and Texans are friendly. I've been there 3 times and took photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...s/72157632317824884/. flashguyThis message has been edited. Charlotte is an American Airlines hub and they have direct flights all over the world from there. You could go to Paris, London, St Croix, St Maarten, St. Kitts, St Croix, Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), etc. According to Trip Advisor, the St Kitts Marriott is available for Memorial Day. What do you enjoy on these trips? Once you see the Alamo and check out the Riverwalk, very charming both, then what? There is the Institute of Texan Cultures with thr tower and revolving restaurant. There are other missions, etc., a couple of breweries to tour. You will be too late for the blue bonnet displays in the fields of the hill country north and west. There is Schlitterbahn water park in New Braunfels, ~30 miles north, but it will be crowded over the holiday weekend. What else? The OP mentioned that he had a lot of Marriott points to use, so that's why I suggested it. I stayed there for a week and it's a perfect location in the center of town. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

Our favorite “go-to” trips are Disney Cruises to Bahamas and surrounding out of Cape Canaveral, Destin Florida (the condos at Pelican Beach Resort are great), and trips to Switzerland. We’ve been to Interlaken, Zurich, Lucerne, Bern, and the SIG/Swiss Arms factory and falls there on the Rhine. For May we really like Destin or a Caribbean Cruise with Disney. We’d go Disney even if we didn't have kids. The storms and Hurricanes seem less frequent in May.
