Yes. You have to change your habits. Take that from someone who has been struggling with that forever. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I've never had to lose a large amount of weight, but have definitely noticed that it goes on more easily with each passing year. Here's another way to look at it: Eliminate one unhealthy thing that you eat on a frequent basis and see how it goes. One handful of chips a day is 170 calories. That will convert to a gain or loss of about 20 pounds over the course of a year.

Check out dietdoctor.com - part of their emphasis is on real food rather than someone's packaged stuff. I pretty much eat what I like and stay in ketosis; can't handle tracking either carbs or calories. Over ten months eating low carb/high fat I've lost about 40 pounds and have gotten more relaxed about the rules. It's been a pretty easy lifestyle change for me, although tougher when away from home.

I'm down 55 pounds since March 17, 2019 using the Keto diet. Still a long ways to go. I don't agree with those that say it isn't a lifestyle change that can be done long term. It certainly can and many people have done so. It has been the easiest "diet" I've tried in my 52 years. ____________________________ NRA Benefactor Life Member GOA Life Member Arizona Citizens Defense League Life Member

Like scurvy I've lost 121 since april 5 2018. Like scurvy I also no longer consider myself on a "diet" Like scurvy I just eat a salad for lunch with minced leftover meat or 2 cans of tuna everyday. I eat meat/fish/poultry and high fiber vegies for dinner. My treats are protein shakes with coco powder and stevia, or nature valley protien bars (9 net carbs), when I want salty I go with sunflower/pumpkin seeds. Nuts can easily be a carb overload because the serving size is too small and calorie count high. Like scurvy I also drink 4 to 6 17oz bottles of water a day. I agree with scurvy. It is much easier then all the hype over keto. You simply have to relearn your eating habits. After over a year, it's just daily routine of eating meals that are quality. What is amazing to me is this. You can put a candy bar in my hand, and I wont even think twice about eating it. Nothing in me desires it. Put put a steak in front of me and my mouth waters. 100% Your mind and body reprogram themselves and adapt. I have no desire for any carbs anymore. The only reason I have rice is cause I love sushi, the rice is just a necessary component. I can find something to eat at any restaurant (Chinese is by far the hardest though), either a salad or chicken wings or something. Most places are more than happy to give you extra veggies or a side salad instead of the starch that comes with your dinner. The key is to make it work for you, don't work for it. I think a lot of people get burnt out spending time and effort making low carb version of food they used to love eating. Just not worth it imho.

Keto for over a year. 65 pounds and holding. Easy peasy. I abstain from sugar like an alcoholic. It was nothing less than a lifestyle change for me. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

I've been on Keto with the wife since mid-January. She's down 50 lbs and I'm down 40 (from 226 to 186). That's not what I consider the most important part though. In addition to the weight, I had problems with arthritis in my feet. That's gone. I had breathing issues (bronchial tubes). Gone. I couldn't do simple tasks without getting out of breath. Gone. I had frequent migraines. Gone. Acid reflux at night. Gone. I had terrible heartburn if I didn't eat in the morning. Gone. Basically, I wanted to lose a bit of weight but found that I just feel great. We also do 16/8 intermittent fasting which is basically skipping breakfast. We started that because we just aren't hungry in the AM. As stated above, I can't be tempted by sugary treats. I find that I'm in control of my stomach and not the other way around. My total cholesterol and LDL are high at the moment (triglycerides, HDL and total/HDL ratio are excellent though). While transitioning, I did get awful smelling sweat and bad breath. I guess that's all the bad stuff that happened. I get a lot of funny naysaying when I mention keto. I find it humorous when a 400 lbs guy tells me keto is unhealthy. Carb up, slim.

When I go on a lake vacation with the family each year I don’t just fall off the wagon, I do a triple lindy straight into a pile of junk food. By the end of the week I’m getting heartburn and headaches from the sugar and processed foods. I actually looked forward to being back home and eating mostly clean. I don’t count calories and go strict keto, just fats, protein and vegetable carbs. It’s amazing how fast weight starts dropping off and how much better I feel after a few days back on the wagon.

Weight gain/loss is hormonal, not thermogenic. People think of the body as a simple engine, thermodynamics. Instead it’s like a city with millions of engines, refineries, storage tanks etc. The easiest way to understand it for me is the inverse relationship between insulin and glucagon. What they do, and what signals them. Intermittent fasting is also a key component to maximize the low sugar lifestyle. Btw, there is very little difference metabolically between a cookie, a piece of bread, a banana, and an apple. Healthy sugar is still sugar. Once I bought in to that, I started losing weight. ----------------------------------------------------------- TCB all the time...

Remnant Cholesterol is the number I track. Cholesterol can be higher on a LCHF diet. New research is showing as long as your body is using it as designed to transport fat for fuel around your body and using it up for the most part it not an issue. Take the total and subtract the LDL and HDL to get your number. Under 17 is what you are shooting for. Mine was 8 last checkup. Check out Dave Feldman he has done a lot of research on the topic. 267 total -188 LDL -57 HDL --------- 16 So, I'm good then? My Apolipoprotein B is 135. Any concern there?

IANAD, but I would inquire with your medical professional about your total cholesterol and your LDL...both look high. HDL looks good and if you have your triglycerides number, they should be <150. I've heard about this "remnant" or "residual" cholesterol, but I'd have to say you need to keep the big picture in mind as well. JMHO... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

This is wrong in so many ways/ Thousands of Gym Rats wake up every 2-3 hours to have a protein drink. The Keto diet and the like are all meant as a short term, whatever that is, quick start.

My HDL is higher but other than that our numbers are similar. Eat plenty of good fats not just meat and cheese. Opinions on Cholesterol are changing but it is slow going and Doctors are still quick to prescribe drugs. I have a wellness exam with bloodwork yearly. If all my numbers are good and markers are good I am not sweating the higher LDL. Definitely talk to your doc about it. Mine had suggested getting on meds to get cholesterol under 200 but I refused. I would say no to cashews but Almonds, pecans, macadamia everything else above, coconut oil, 100% dark chocolate, avocados, raw almond butter. Watch the nuts for added oils that a lot of the roasted varieties have. JC

We do cook with coconut oil, butter and olive oil. I'm sure most of my fat intake comes from cheese though.
