Had a manual from 18 til about 3 years ago. Still have the car, but it's unfit for service anymore. Current daily is an auto and I hate it. Looking for a new driver currently.
2001 S10 4 cyl auto... It's a dog. 2002 S10 Xtreme... 4.3 v6 auto... Too much motor for the chassis and shot mileage. Also handled pretty good. 2003 S10 4 cyl manual... Still slow, but 30mpg regularly and would embarrass some "sports" cars in the corners. 2001 S10 4 cyl manual... First manual at 18. Bought what I could afford. Base interior, but cloth seat. 81 Malibu v6 auto... First car, basically exactly what you'd expect. Worst V6 chevy ever made.
A Perpetual Disappointment...

Never picked an auto, ever, if a manual was offered. My performance car, a manual is the only thing I will buy, same for my bikes. No manual, no fucking sale!

Two here, 2005 Accord, and a 2013 Civic. We’re definitely in the minority.

We are all auto trans people now. I learned to operate a standard transmission at 13. All of the DFs but the youngest can drive a stick. Jr DF #4 doesn't want to learn because he is a big baby.

First car was a '72 Triumph and have had a couple of them over the years. Got the fun car itch this year so I picked up a GTI....it had to by a manual....with the exception of a couple traffic jams on the highway I have loved every minute.
When I was looking the STI and a rwd M235i were in the running both were manuals. I was surprised how few 6sp BMWs are out there today....

As a kid, I learned how to drive stick on a 1984 Honda Civic that belonged to my friends brother. That poor clutch took a beating as we all took turns doing up hill starts trying to learn. Hadn't driven a stick for many years after that but currently have a 1973 Challenger with an A833 4 speed behind a stroked 440. Fun fun fun car to drive, would not be the same experience with an automatic.

Our current one is a Hyundai H-1 with a five speed manual. It helps a lot in the mountains here. Our kids also learned to drive on standard transmission cars.....on purpose. My first car was a rusty, oil burning Mazda RX-4. I taught myself to drive it in the driveway, back and forth between first and reverse. Good times

I've had a lot more manual transmission cars over the years, but that's what I've got now. In a couple more years I'll probably find a 2016 with a manual to stick with what seems to be my car buying pattern, but that may be a little too new for me. It seems like all of the newer stuff develops electrical gremlins after 5-10 years that no one can really fix. I'll just get something older, slap a modern drivetrain in it, and drive it forever.
"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I've had a 1st generation Scion tC and a C5 Corvette Z06 as my manual transmission vehicles. Don't currently have any though I wish I did. I miss driving standard, it's driving. Automatic is merely steering.

Just the HD is manual, the others are autos, driving around town mostly a manual becomes a PIA, it's hard to drive, clutch, shift, post on SF, Scan Amazon, and play mario brothers with a manual...

My Mustang is a 6 speed manual, it's the only transmission that was available on any Boss. All my Mustangs have been manuals (4/5/6). Other M/T were small pickups, Civics, Escorts and good ole 3 on the tree vans (and lots of motorcycles street and dirt.) Never have had an F150 with an M/T (all auto's), but it would be cool to have a modern one with a Hurst shifter and T-handle coming up through the floor.
