When Live Aid was on TV I didn't watch it but I found out when Queen was going on and set the VCR to record it. I really wasn't interested in any of the other bands. I think I watched it once and probably recorded over it. Back during that time virtue signaling was life. Everyone wanted to be a part of saving the world. Live Aid was just bigger than everything else. It was the 1980s and everyone did things that had no meaning (Hands Across America, et al.) I despised the "We Are The World" and "Do They Know It's Christmas" songs but I did buy the heavy metal "Hear'n'Aid" record because I liked guitar solos. Dio was a good dude that wanted to join in the world saving. I was reminded of all this after watching Bohemian Rhapsody so I fired up YouTube and checked out Queen's performance. I was amazed at how very well the new movie recreated the performance, down to the Pepsi cups and beer on the piano and the timing of the kisses to mom and poses by Freddie Mercury. It was very well done. My next thought was that I never heard if there was any actual relief of hunger in Ethiopia. I unfortunately looked it up. Not only did Geldof's plan not save the world, the money and food went to a corrupt government that purchased weaponry from Russia to aid in it's oppression and only exacerbated the plight or the Ethiopian peasants. https://www.spin.com/featured/...2uAtQU1WLCg18NoNrA-U Coverups of this exposé seemed mostly successful. I was just a kid when it was going on but now I can see the folly of the plan. I do believe the bands had good intentions and thought they were doing the right thing but that's just more celebrities being unable to relate to the real-world. I hope you'll read and share this article.

Step by step walk the thousand mile road |
Failure to solve world hunger and propping up corrupt governments aside, one thing is true: Queen stole the show at Live Aid. One musician I saw interviewed in a documentary about Queen summed up Freddie Mercury's capture of the 80,000+ person audience this way:
I look forward to seeing Bohemian Rhapsody once I am sprung from this physrehab I'm in.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Sig2340, Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

Thank you Very little |
Queen did a great job look forward to getting the movie at home to see it sans movie theater, I if you don't watch the Grand Tour show on Amazon Prime TV, the boys did a bit that took a shot at celebrities failing trying to help in Africa... There is no doubt about that. I can't figure why the critics are hating this movie. It drew me in. I know you'll like it.

Get my pies outta the oven! |
Don't forget that Live Aid was TWO concerts on the same day; London and Philly. Incredibly enough, Phil Collins played at both thanks to the Concorde jet!

Live long and prosper |
Haven't checked the movie yet but I did attend Queen's tour that in on the live killer album. It was excellent. Never been a fan although I owned a few albums "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Perfection is impossible, Trying is not… |
Saw the movie Sunday. It was great!! The theater had 11.1 THX sound. Couldn't have sounded any better!!! "Isn't it weird that in AMERICA, our flag & our culture offend so many people - but our benefits do not"

half-genius, half-wit |
Back then I watched newsreel of a large freighter offload forty-eight brand-new 12-ton Mercedes-Benz trucks, all loaded with sacks of food, at the port of Mogadishu. Three days later I saw those same trucks lined up and burned out, and the sacks of food, clearly marked UNESCO, on sale in a local market. I stopped giving at that point and have continued in my lack of genrosity.
