In the past we've had threads on who has the worst neighbor. I've considered mine terrible at the very least. Wife doesn't agree, she says they're great. Hasn't been legally occupied in 15 years. Its better to not have anyone around.

So this morning I'm pleasantly reclining in my chair and up rolls 2 Duke Energy trucks. With the boom they used to use to disconnect power up at the lines. So its getting interesting. And along walks a guy with a big set of cutters. They drop the wires where they were connected and then the guy does a half assed job of snipping them on the side of the house. As high as he can reach I guess.

OK with me, but I bet the squirrels will be pissed. That was their highway. So being a friendly kind of guy (nosy), I went out and talked to them. The one worker says the work order calls for a "permanent disconnect". He say they only say that when the city is taking it over to rehab or tear it down. Now Dick is smiling. Maybe I could buy it and put a pool in the foundation! Big Grin Or buy grandstands for the big fireworks show on Labor Day.

I have no idea how to find out details, but I'm thinking I need to find out, and quick.

You need to have a connection at the courthouse. Those folks know everything.

I don't have the worst neighbor by far, but of the six or seven houses surrounding mind cumulatively it sucks pretty damn bad. I can't wait to leave this shit hole.

Anyone who lives within 5 miles of my house is a terrible neighbor. Big Grin

Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Has someone been squatting in it over the years?

See if your county website provides real property tax information. You may be able to tell if the property tax is in arrears or if the county is going to sell it in a delinquent tax sale. My county lists properties for sale 2 weeks before the tax sale.

In Ky, the county clerk has records of ownership and transfer. It's public info. In some counties, the data is online. Happy googling!

You might be able to buy it cheap for the outstanding taxes. Re-hab and flip. Or rent it out and be your own slum lord!

Physically go to the courthouse and look at the notices about tax forfeitures...you might be able to buy the place at the cost of the taxes owed.!

I've found it on the PVA web site. But nothing there of interest. Guess I've gotta go try to visit the city building. See if the property folks have any insight. More than likely they're closed but still collecting full salary.

As for the last time anyone occupied the dump, they were gay guys (this is Kentucky and we still call them queers), I could tell because they wore pink dress shirts all the time. A strong indicator of their "sexual preference". Of course the owner/girl rented it out and didn't declare it because she'd have had to take out an "occupational license" to do so. My wife again stepped in and said I wasn't allowed to shoot the bastards. It would have been OK with the guy on the other side.

Other things happening in paradise...My groundskeeper/grass cutter was here. He was all upset because he saw a car go into the river. The current theory being that the black lady driving and her daughter were in the car. My grass cutter guy wanted to jump in to save them. Cops were there but they wouldn't let him, and you know none of them were going to. Now on the news they've got a photo of a car, covered with a tarp, on a crane. Guess I won't get an update until 10:00 PM news.

I'd be building a 40 ft. Diameter geodesic dome
With a 30 ft. Dia. Kiva

Underneath it
10 ft. In the ground.

In a local city a abandoned house burned down and damaged one next door. Fires like this can start by any means by a little flame only an inch high, sometimes on the end of a match.

You need to do a title search.
The info you need is public info, where I live the county clerks will not help you.
If you are not able to sort thru and understand all the legal documents on record I would suggest paying an attorney to do the search for you.
Locally via about 200-300 depending on who does it.
