Decided to build another table. We want something smaller than the last one we built and wanted it to be a dining table with a removable top to a gaming surface.

This is what we came up with so far.

Counter height so standing will be an option.

Frame:



Base all built up with game surface/lip. Will be sourcing a large game mat for this surface. Something of the sorts of a large mouse pad. 3x5 is apparently a non common size and am having a hard time finding such...



Table top. Edge glued boards. Will be building a square frame on the underside the same dimensions as the open box. That way it will just slip right in and not slide around. Then lift it off for game/card nights.




Base will be white (primered right now). Top will be a dark stain and a satin poly coat.



Here is the last table we built. Little too big for the space. It was only $100 in materials to make this one. Was not the driest wood so there was a little bit of shrinkage/warpage. We learned from that mistake! Still looks good though. The new table (top) will be the same stain color.

Yeah we were thinking of using the old wood table as a picnic table in the back yard, but I think its even too big for that.

Should be able to sell it no problem. More project money!


Here are a couple other little projects we made recently as well...

Made a storage bed frame thingy. Not as fancy, just plywood but it functions and does what we wanted. We also made (cut in half and sanded ) the barrel bed the lazy Bull Terrier is in)






Then a simple pipe shelf:

Then we have been making a bunch of these dog leash/ treat / poo bag holder things. Sell them at a local pet shop. Have not made any for a little while. Ran out of a cheap source for the antique hook things.

Two motorcycles ... one for each? What about the dog?

Ha! Secret tunnel sounds like a good next project! Unfortunately it had to get flushed up and another piece of plywood over it. Back support and all. Psshh.

Dogs dont get to ride... Although she is on the verge of buying or making a side car for her Monster to carry the dogs!


The dogs are little dweebs. Both about 8ish years old. Bull Terrier was a rescue and had the mixed brindle since he was a baby pup. Great dogs.

Couple more progress pics:

Base is all painted and ready to go. Can not find a 3x5 gaming mat. Have 1 company that can do custom sizes but he wont respond. Anyways. Found an oversized yoga mat and we cut it to size. Works great for now. Not hot on the blue but this was cheap and a test.



Top is getting poly coated. Wanted a clean area without all the garage dust so its getting coated in the computer room . This way we can close the door and keep the dogs out too. Its water based poly so hardly any smell. Window still cracked though. Will take it back out to the garage to sand between coats of poly.



Here is how the top sits on the base. These runners are perfectly spaced and length to fit right inside the 3x5 box. Just lift it off and set it back on.

And test fit. Still needs to get a couple more poly coats. Really happy with how its turned out.

The legs were store bought.

There are 3 screws going from the main box into the legs.



Then the exterior end boxes get screwed into the main frame and then into the other side of the leg.



So there are 6 screws in each leg. Its super sturdy.


I was originally going to leave the end boxes open on the top and add a base to them so we could store cards or other things in there. But it didnt feel right having a double lip like that on your arms and seemed like it would look unfinished. So we capped them. More comfortable and think it looks better.
