Enjoy it. Be sure to invite friends along. They won’t ask...just offer.

Love big/high horsepower tiller steers. You get so much speed for the horsepower, and they are so simple and roomy.

What was the top speed of your Alaskan? I'll guess 55 MPH. My 14 foot Lowe with a 25 Mercury goes low 30's. My brother has a 16 foot Lowe with a 25 Mercury on it and he barefoot skied behind it.

Mid-30s is all she'll do loaded out with a full 26 27 gallon tank, a couple of adults, and fishing gear.

Roomy and open is the reason I went with the tiller. The only downside is how much spray I take in the driver's seat, and it's a lot when out on the open ocean.

Impressive that the 25 Merc could pull a barefooter.

A buddy has a very similar Ranger circa 2002. I've been in plenty of 200hp bass boats, fished tourneys for a couple of years. I hate bass boats. That Ranger cuts through the chop a lot better.

Rangers are great boats. I had a 621VS with a Merc 250XS that was a great fishing boat and very comfortable.

On a related note: I read that the founder of Ranger, Forrest Wood, passed away just last week at the age of 88. He certainly did a lot to advance fishing boat design.

Also heard with the Verado, that valve adjustments are few and far between
Great for a 4 stroker!

I manage/maintain several sets of Verado's. Have not heard of a valve adjustment on them. The 1 year/100 hour service and 2 year/200 hour service is pretty reasonable and consists of oil/filter change, fuel filter, lower unit gear oil, and not too much else. The 3 year/300 hour service is the expensive one with thermostats/poppit valves, water pump impellor and things of that nature and then it repeats in that order in another 3 years.
