Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse. I just found out that the pharmacies are using actual blacklists to refuse pain med prescriptions from specific doctors. Looks like they were using such lists in Florida around 2012, and now it has spread here.

I am down to my last 95 pills (maybe 2 weeks). Besides the pain, I will probably go into withdrawal once the supply is gone. I've been through WD twice; it's not fun, and I don't want to go through it again.

Anyone else going through this?

So what's wrong with you that you need an opioid pain killer for such an extended time? My MIL had major surgery and only got 7 days worth after begging for something to kill the pain after 5 days and she suffered even then to a significant degree.

Have you seen a pain management specialist? A buddy of mine had a device implanted near his spine to relieve related back pain.

I have Fibromyalgia from a bad car accident in 1976. The pain has never gone away. (I also have a Traumatic Brain Injury, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Migraine headaches, although the headaches went into remission a couple years ago).

I have done some work with pain management, but haven't had much (any) luck.

You should move to a state like CO or NV where marijuana is 'legal'.

Seven opioid pills a day is definitely not the answer. You need to take your pain seriously and find a good pain specialist.

May I ask what treatments you tried, and at what strength, and whether you were on opioids at the same time?

I've been taking it seriously for 41 years, friend.

Kkina, that straight up sucks ass. But you know this.
I’m of the opinion, and few reputable dr types I have associated and spoke about this with, the opioid crisis is overblown. Like the Russia probe.(We all may could agree that Fentanyl pushed it over the top.)

A lot of good folks are using the meds as they should. Ain’t my call to tell anyone it’s right or wrong, does it work for you? Well that’s the key.

And I’m the type who pops the occasional Advil/aspirin from a hard day.
Then has a beer and calls it.

Hang in man.

Thanks, man. That does mean a lot right now.

The opioid crisis is being handled like the gun "crisis", the law abiding are continually being assaulted with more laws and rules that the law breakers will never follow.

Either I, or some of the rest of y'all have a misunderstanding of what the opioid problem is all about.

It is my understanding that the opioid problem is primarily created by the over- and mis-prescription of powerful opioid-based pain-killers--much like the drug-resistant bacteria problem was created by the careless prescription of antibiotics. This gets people with poor self-control easily-addicted, at which point they'll do whatever they must to maintain their addiction. This, in turn, creates a black market. Which, in turn, creates "job openings" for people willing to fake pain to obtain the drugs and corrupts some doctors into prescribing these drugs purely for profit.

Now, it seems to me anybody with a legitimate need for such strong pain-killers ought to be able to find a legitimate doctor to prescribe them, and that such a doctor would tend not end up on any kind of "black list."

My last doctor had a sign right by the sign-in desk, listing drugs she absolutely would not prescribe. It was a lie. She would prescribe them if she knew you. That sign was to ward-off "doctor shopping."

Yeah, you got it but there's a few more pieces.

About 10 years ago, doctors like my PCP were instructed to treat pain as a separate disease, and prescribe accordingly. In fact, they were told to proactively ask if a patient was in pain, which seems reasonable enough. This was about the time that the super-pain meds like Oxycodone came out. My doc did as he was told, and now he is being treated like a criminal.

I was originally treated for pain from my eczema, believe it or not, as it was so bad at the time that I became disabled from my job. I started with Norco and Ultram. I soon noticed that the pain beneath the skin was also being relieved. For the first time, I realized I suffered from Fibromyalgia (I knew I had Chronic Fatigue, but not FM.)

So yes, it's the legitimate pain sufferers that are being hurt most of all by the recent trends.

That seems to be a universal truth. When something is misused, be it guns, medication, or whatever, the resulting "crackdown" has little effect on the abusers, and only harms the legitimate users.

My wife has a chronic pain condition from unsuccessful back surgery. She had a pump implanted and has been able to reduce her oral meds by 50% from the starting point. Right now the pump is putting out about 30% of it's maximum, so we are hoping for more relief. To give you an idea of how much her meds have been reduced, my wife was on 60mg morphine 2x, 10/325 hydrocodone 10x, and some other stuff. She's down to 30mg x2 and 10/325 x6 with the pain doc shooting for minimum oral meds by the end of the year.

And for those who say that a chronic pain patient should just 'get control' of their condition, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Well said. I didn’t realize we have so many doctors onboard the forum.
