I have a 18 foot tall U shaped dirt berm w two steel plates at the bottom set up.
We typically shoot when the gun club on the other side of my fence is having a tournament. We shoot only two rounds max at a time. Mostly pistols.

Well Mr. Scrooge McDuck, we won't confuse you with any of "them."

ridewvNot a true range but I put up a backdrop of logs at the edge of one of the fields which works pretty well. I have a bullet trap on a little table I leave out from spring through fall then bring them in. I load a folding table and chair, targets, guns, and ammo in the MULE to get there.
This 40-50 yard distance to the table is where I typically shoot my .22's with open sights but I can go back to 150 yards or so unimpeded.
My daughter, SOL, and two grandsons shooting .22's.

ibandaI grew up in the big city, but both Mom & Dad were Texas weekend cattle ranchers. Unfortunately all of the land has been sold and I have lost my range, as well as hunting & fishing places. I have lots of pictures but most of it is on film and very little on digital to post.
If I ever hit the lottery I will try and buy it back, but for now I will try and appreciate my .17 acre lot in town.....

cparktdNo, but I can go to a back corner of my only 4 acre lot and shoot toward the north, which is a neighboring 150 acre farm with no occupants or even outbuildings. Shooting from that back corner puts me the required 300+ feet from the road... where hunting is not permitted... the 300 foot rule is just for hunting, and the law doesn't say anything about target shooting but grey area I suppose. There are cattle, but I don't shoot if I can see any of them around. There are lots of deer as well, but one has never, yet, accidentally walked into my line of fire. The owner's nephew has exclusive hunting race to the property. It's all rising ground in that direction and about a quarter of a mile away there's a heavily wooded hill that rises almost 300 feet. It's almost exactly 1 mile to the closest house in that direction, beyond the hill. I try to limit the shooting to pistols myself, but occasionally a grandson will want to shoot a rifle. I occasionally hear my a neighbors shoot. Used to be one that would shoot every Wednesday afternoon one summer. I'm only about a mile away from a private school that has a shooting team, and a range... doubt it's open to the public but I hear them practicing at times. Last spring I heard the neighbor behind me shoot a few shots while I was working in my Shop building. I actually heard a bullet hit my metal roof! I went and had a talk with him, to make sure he understands I didn't care if he shot but just to be a little more careful... he said they were shooting at stuff on the ground in his backyard. Must've been a ricochet. Anyway, all that said just to show that my neighbors don't get excited if they hear somebody shooting.
Sorry, I just realized I was just rambling on...

Expert308When I was a kid we had a cabin in the mountains in Montana. There was enough clear space that we could shoot .22's there at least. Does that count?

YellowJacketWe recently thinned the pines at the hunting property and now have a pretty clear 250+ yard range. I just built a shooting house mostly for hunting but it will be good for shooting rifles in the offseason. I'd like to get 3 or 4 steel targets rated for high powered rifles.
Down the opening on the right of the photo is about 200 to the bottom of the hill and then I have another 50-70 yards I can reasonably shoot.
And looking back up to the shooting house form the other end.

Just jumping in to say thanks for posting those photos. I didn't even to look at your location to say "Hey! Georgia!"

mojojojoNot sure you'd call it a range per se but, like others posted, my wife and I built a pretty substantial backstop out of material we had already on the property (mainly old telephone poles).
We can shoot out to about 50 yards but typically shoot at 25-30 yards. I could probably make a rifle range of a couple hundred yards but that would require more time than I have at present.
Anyway, here's our backstop. I do love hopping in the gator and driving it out to the back of the property and shooting whenever the mood strikes.

ridewvYou have a nice, cleared area within your forest for shooting there YellowJacket! I never thought of a "shooting house".

That's a nice set up Mojo.

armoredMy Son lives about 1 hour from me, we built a 100 yard range on his property.
October 26, 2026, 06:45 PM
Oat_Action_ManLike several others, I've got a backstop built from trees that have come down, plus backed up by our drainage mound.
If I were to go all the way up the driveway and shoot into the back yard, I can muster about 100 yards, but 50 is about it realistically.
I usually only shoot suppressed or a few rounds of unsuppressed here and there to not disturb my neighbors, even though there's literally a gun range (one of my two neighbors is actually the president lol) about a quarter mile down the road and you can hear that easily.

tatortoddI'm retiring in 2 years and 2 months, and plan to move out of the city onto acreage. Building a range is a high priority.

Yes if you want to sight in, pop a few off. Probably will have a problem with a full range day.
I have been looking for land in WVA and am thinking about relocating to various areas in 2027 if the incentives are right. One place also WVA, but not the version 45min from me now.

2AdefenderWe have a great range here in the neighborhood, but damn those bastages put a golf course on it.
Fortunately there are some good shooting ranges close by. I do wish I had some property to shoot on, though.

tleddyI set up a 10 meter air gun range on our deck. Many thousands of pellets later, and still drop an "8" too often!!

StarTravelerNot a formal range but there are several places on my parents’ farm where I can shoot up to 100 yards into a slope that acts as a backdrop. Closer to home, I have my pellet stop for my air rifle. I used to to have a 30 foot pellet gun range in the basement (pellet stop plus 4” of foam insulation behind for any errant rounds when I had guests but then my wife decided we needed the basement built out more than I needed a range.

horsedocI have one at the office only 10 a acres but nothing but pasture behind it. Steels and target stands. My son uses it more than me nowadays before PD qualification days.
Have 80 acres in northern Oklahoma that you can get a 200 yard shot with my childhood motorcross jump as a backstop.
Sorry can't get pics right now.
