Does anyone have an AMSEC FV series safe or Liberty 1776 or knowledgeable opinions on either? I know these are both lower end RSC's but I have a budget of around $2,500 +/-, and need a good storage unit that will give some decent protection from opportunistic thieves and maybe moderate fire protection. If I were to spend a little more, say $3,000, are there better options? I'm looking for larger unit...both these come in 72"Hx40"W x27" so that will impact price. This safe will be going in a free standing workshop adjacent to our residence. The building is well insulated and has a dehumidifier. I do understand these are both really just basic RSC's, that the fire protection of most "gun safes" in my price range is questionable, that the only real safe out there a Graffunder or custom concrete bunker... (this seems to a common these theme most safe questions deteriorate too). However, I have a lot of guns laying around or sitting in closets and really need to get them organized and moderately protected. Thank you, Brian Made in Texas, in the good ole' U.S. of A.

I'm sorry that I don't have any first hand experience with either of these. I will say this, I've had two Amsecs now, one an NV and the other a BF. Comparing them with others of similar size in the same price bracket I've found the Amsec to be of better quality inside and out. Depending on your local market you might be able to find a good deal on a used one. Often times when folks go to move they decide that moving that big ol' gun safe isn't worth it. I know several folks that have sold very nice, very big safes for a song on the condition that the buyer hire someone to move it out of the house. Just a thought. On the subject of security, since this will be in a detached building, it might be wise to take a layered approach (which is always wise to be honest). Would an appliance box be out of place in this building? If not, maybe see if you can get an empty refrigerator box from an appliance store. You could cut the bottom off and slip it over the safe. Out-Of-Sight out-of-mind and all that. Stack a couple things around it that make it look like it's just sitting there. The casual observer will likely glaze right over it. Anyhow, all that to say that there are options beyond buying new and ways to enhance the security of whatever you end up with. Of course, you already knew that, just trying to offer up some options. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…
