Found this after a quick search, $39/gal.

http://www.mymagictank.com/pro...agic-tank-twin-pack/

We're taking the 2016 CRV on two road trips starting a week from now, mostly on interstates. First trip will be about 3K miles, second will be closer to 4K. I do not plan to let the tank reach empty, but there may be circumstances out of my control. I do not want to carry real gas.

Has anyone used this Magic Tank?

An extra gallon of fuel buys you an extra 30 miles of travel. Why not just fill up an extra 30 miles sooner than normal.

That's our plan. "Circumstances out of my control." includes getting trapped on the interstate after a real bad accident.

Dumb question: why that vs just extra tanks of gas mounted to the back like they do for overland and other cross country type expeditions?

Is sounds interesting, but I am dubious about putting non-gas in my gas powered vehicles. I'd have an extra tank installed if necessary or just keep the regular tank half full or better. YMMV...

I really don't see the need for that, good fuel management and you'd be fine. On long road trips, stopping to pee or stretch is a good idea, just fuel up then.

I know there are long stretches on western roads where you need to be careful.

I carry 2 1/2 Gal of gas externally on my Jeep, only when expecting to be off road. I can help myself or others. Rotopax is what I use, my tire carrier is built to accommodate it.

I have driven all over this country, taken countless multi-thousand mile drives across deserts, mountains, and farm country via back roads and interstates. This has never even crossed my mind as an issue. There is no excuse to run out of gas in the USA if you have half a brain. Find other things to obsess over, this is a non issue and hauling flammable liquids inside your car is more likely to kill you than save you.

Never heard of it. Wouldn't waste my time with it.

Don't let your vehicle go under half a tank and you'll be fine.

I think the OP's point is that the stuff isn't flammable. However, without knowing what it is, I sure wouldn't put it in my vehicles. A 10 liter jerry can filled with ethanol-free gas and some gas stabilizer strapped to the outside should be good for a year or two without risking your engine or fueling system.

I've had to use by rear mounted gas canisters up in the mountains and crossing the wastelands of Colorado. Quite nice for peace of mind.

I would spend the money on a very nice fuel can (they have nice ones that I wouldn't worry about being in the vehicle).

I live in a somewhat sparsely populated, remote area where we regularly travel 75-100 miles between gas stations. I don't feel the need to carry a can of supplemental fuel. My vehicles go around 400 miles on a full tank at the speed limit. I fill up when the tank gets down to 1/2 full.

$40 for 2 1/2 gallon jugs?

Their website shows NOT IN STOCK. The website hasn't been updated since 2015.

While on vacation a few years ago, we went thru Kansas and almost ran out of gas. Stations are few and far between at some places there.

A 5 gallon "Jerry Can" is a possibility for emergency carry. If you have a GPS on board, an APP for all available gas stations nearby should be preinstalled. I use this on my motorcycles.

Supposed to work, but it sure is expensive.. They sell it on Home Depot's website $14 for 1/2 gallon.. BTW: although the video is called "Don't waste your money", that's the show's name, they tested this stuff and says it works..

It's a bargain (compared to the www site) at Home Depot, only $15/half gallon:

Thanks for all the replies. About ten years ago we were trapped 3-4 hours on I-70 near Dayton after a nasty snowstorm, thankfully we had a full tank. I'll check my local hardware store to see if they have something similar.

If you do go with this get a funnel, it's unlikely you can pour directly into your filler port without it.

Be a real shame to need the fuel, and have it, but no way to pour it in!

I have driven all over this country and I carry extra fuel on me.

I carry it more for being stopped for long periods of time than anything else. I have stopped on the interstate for 2+ hours before. Depending on the weather and circumstances, you may be able to shut the car off while you sit there. I couldn't have sat with the car off with my 1 year old in the car in the July heat of Louisiana last year. Travelling over the winter with the dogs and spending a few hours at a rest stop, I couldn't turn the car off due to it getting too cold.

Shit happens and I'm surprised at some of the answers here coming from guys who carry an extra magazine plus a back up to a gun fight that may never happen yet we all drive every day.

I have had situations in west Texas where stations actually ran out of gas between Fort Stockton and El Paso.

I have driven nearly a million miles in 20+ years of driving. Once drove 12,000 miles in a month. There's a particular stretch in Utah I remember driving through where it said something like "no services for next 120 miles" or something like that.

I don't plan on getting into a car crash but I wear a seat belt. I don't plan on having a fire but I keep a fire extinguisher handy.

Stuck in the snow, stuck in the mud, stuck in crazy traffic on the Cross Bronx expressway, those are the only times I wished I had extra gas. You have plenty of gas and plenty of time to get gas, until you don't.

(not counting the cars and trucks we had without gauges. Ran out all the time with them. lol)
