Wondering if she might eat it. I dont have any dog food. Just saw her eat 2 pieces of banana the produce guys tossed on the ground. Dog has been running the Flea Market property and other businesses close by for 4 or 5 days. She is scared of everything. If the winds would stop, she might smell the kitty food. She's but 30 yards away. I will be calling Animal Control tomorrow. Maybe they will take her in. Maintainance guys truck just scared her back up across the property. No collar on her. Funny looking pooch. Sort of a grey hound mixed with beagel. Colors like a Gateway Computer box..

Heck yes. If she's eating banana, she's hungry.

If she is anything like my hound, what's on the label won't scare her. Probably could use a good meal, go for it!

Oh, and by the way, this thread is worthless without pictures!

I can try and get a pic if she comes back down. She is skinny but moves quite fast.

I'm not a vet, but if she ate a banana, give her the cat food. She must be very hungry.

I've put out 4 little ham and cheese sammiches too. I draw the line at Spam. She aint getting my Spam..

I was watching one of those Vet shows and a dog came in after getting into the cat food. It had a ball of compact food in its stomach and was miserable. Luckily a bunch of IV fluids lubed up the dog enough for it to digest the food and not need surgery the following morning. They told the owners to keep the dog away from the cat food since this is a common problem. Don’t know what kind of cat food it was.

Sorry, but it's also my understanding that cat food is not good for dogs.

OK. Birds and a Crow are eating. Dawggy is nowhere around. The kitty I feed hasnt shown for a couple days as he knows the dog is running all over.

I don't think just because it's eating banana it means it's starving.

Nutritionally cat food is higher in protein than dog food, but if the dog is hungry one feeding isn't going to be an issue.

As far as bananas, my dog will sit and watch me eat one, she always gets the last little bit.

By all means, feed her the cat food. It won’t hurt her in the short term, and if it gains her trust, you might be able to get more info..many dogs are chipped and we’d never know it.
She may have pups, and that extra protein will come in handy. Sounds like she may have italian greyhound in her. There are specific rescue groups in your area (all over the country, actually) that would take her in, retrain her, and place her if they don’t have her on a missing list- most of those little guys require a fenced yard, just like the greyt greys- and they spook easy and run like the wind.

She’ll find the food if you leave it out..but so will a lot of other critters. Good luck.

My dog’s decision tree on whether or not something is fit for consumption:

1. Will this fit in my mouth or can it be torn into pieces that will fit in my mouth? If yes, proceed to question 2.
2. Can it be chewed up and swallowed? If yes, stop. It’s food.

Give the hungry dog the cat food.

My understanding is that dogs are omnivores and if it can be eaten, they will eat it. The smellier the better.

So far she hasn"t shown back up after fearing a few vehicles leaving yesterday. The crows ate the sammiches and a tiger cat got the canned kitty food. The black cat which I feed twice per day came back to eat this morning. I usually wait for him to show up before putting out food.

My toy fox terrier will wake up from a coma for bananas, loves em.
