FlyingScotPrayers and thoughts! I get an upper GI scope every year because I have acid reflux and doc found some strange non cancerous cells a few years back. My aunt died of esophageal cancer which raises the odds. Hits home and I wish you the best in your recovery.

TMatsAll the best in your fight. I worry about contracting the same thing. I have chronic GERD and have been endoscoped several times, most recently, just a couple months ago. It looked OK.
I echo Censored’s suggestion to see a GI specialist if you have reflux disease or difficulty swallowing (how my symptoms first showed up).
Positive thoughts, Censored.

CensoredThanks again everyone for all the prayers and words of encouragement. I am set for testing to determine if cancer is still present following chemo and radiation. If there is no spread I will have surgery on April 26th to remove 2/3's of my esophagus and half of my stomach. The pathology (lack of presence of cancer in removed tissue) will determine my 3 and 5 year survival chances. It is kind of bizarre to talk about what is the percent chance of you living for a certain amount of time when you really do not feel that bad.
It was interesting when I was having the power port (device that is implanted under sink to allow access superior vena cave for chemo, dyes, etc.) put in. The doc asked me if I shot rifles. I gave him a funny look and was not sure if I wanted to answer his question. He then stated if I was a shooter, he would put the port on the opposite side of my chest. I smiled and said only in Texas. You Texan's have an awesome state.

CensoredHeaded to MD Anderson for a couple days of testing and surgery. Will be losing 2/3 of esophagus, 1/2 of stomach, bunch of lymph nodes and other general stuff laying around. all in all about 10 lbs of innards. This is going to suck (hopefully not a bad as the chemo and radiation). I will update when I return home (probably 5-8 weeks). Stay strong.

P226RNSo sorry you are going through this. If it gives you any hope at all my Father was given 5 years in 2001 and he is still kicking cancer's butt. Don't give up hope and fight the good fight. Prayers for you and your loved ones and big hugs.
If it won't matter in 5 years don't give it more than 5 minutes.

CensoredThanks for all your prayers and well wishes. I survived the esophagectomy and was discharged two days early form the hospital and released to go home (from Texas) to KY two weeks early. Pain has been minimal and I am weaning from the tube feedings. I have nine holes in my abdomen and right side from the surgery. It looks like I was in one heck of a knife fight. The staff at MD Anderson was top notch. Again thanks for your prayers and well wishes!
