Only reason not to get something like this would be no place to park it. Well, that and not really needing it.
I love the modularity of it--pickup to "SUV". Short EV range, but would be perfect for hauling around town.
Wish them well.

Jeep was the original simple utility vehicle. They made a million of them for WWII and after WWII people wanted to buy one. So they became a civilian vehicle.
This is pretty cool.

Can't see the post at the office, but have been reading up on these. Almost the same size as the 80s Toyota pickup, with a bit more bed length. Fair bit smaller than the [currently smallest on the market] Ford Maverick.
If they can truly bring it to market under $30k it'd make for a great city truck.

Awesome, all the bs electronic gheee haws and automation drives up the cost and those big screens are stupid.
Buttons and dials, muscle memory, ease of use, simplification, give me rubber floor mats and manual windows!
Perfect, just like the original VW Bug, Toyota, Isuzu, Chevy Luv, simple cheap, perfect.

They had to ruin it my making it electric-powered, despite the vast majority of the American public (me, included) saying they don't want the damned things.
You can't tell me there are no engine manufacturers out there who wouldn't be glad to supply this new company with an economical, 4-cylinder, non-turbo powerplant.
Back to the drawing board, Slate! I'm disappointed.

I believe there are manufacturers eager to make such an engine, but that the regulatory environment truly stifles it.
God bless America.

They could do a 4 cyl engine. There are motorcycle trike builders who can put in a small ICE engine easily, they can buy them from Japanese builders, probably GM or Ford too. However the EPA logistics of testing, qualification for exhaust emissions etc add big bucks and time. EV's don't have to go through CARB testing for that or EPA..
Although a second car that is an EV is not a bad thing to have to run around the local area, groceries, etc... a $50K Tesla vs a $30K Transformer... seems like a good marketing niche...

I'd be all over it if it was internal combustion. As is, I'll probably just continue with my plan to grab an old Nissan hardbody pickup for truck duties.
"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I'll stick with my old 4Runner. I like the 4.0 V6

I like battery powered for a second or third vehicle.
I'd like to know things like build quality, how it rides, any creaks or rattles, real life range, etc. is it AWD?
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.
The 2027 Slate Truck's interior lacks many frills, though a digital gauge cluster, cruise control, power locks, and air conditioning are standard.
There's no audio or infotainment system in the 2027 Slate Truck. Rather, every Truck comes standard with a holder that allows your phone to perform these duties. The accessory division offers in-dash speakers and a tablet holder for those looking for better audio quality or a bigger "infotainment" screen.
Power comes courtesy of a single 201-hp rear motor. A 45-kWh net capacity battery pack comes standard and ought to net around 150 miles of range. Need more? Then upgrade to the approximately 75-kWh net capacity pack that offers an estimated 240 miles of range.

Sounds like a great second car/run around/errand mobile etc.
Get a big family car to do road trips/etc and have these for just running around the neighborhood/going to work/running into a station/etc.

I like the idea. I'd like it tons more if it was offered with a gasoline engine.
I just want to replace my 1998 F150 work truck. Crank windows, manual trans, no AC, vinyl floor mats. Zero options.
The Slate is really close to what I want. EV's are not practical out here in rural America. The other component that I'm sure went into the business plan is the hefty Federal EV credit which reduces the price to close to $20k and makes it super affordable. I can see a bunch of businesses buying these, wrapping them into instant image marketing.

Great idea for a cheap pickup. The wife and I need to occasionally haul things. Water heaters, landscaping stuff, etc. We never need to tow. EV would fit that bill for us just fine. The concept of "click in" sound system, collision avoidance, etc. is a really cool idea. I hope they do well with this.
