On my ride to Virginia yesterday I pondered whether a first generation SV650 would fit inside my 2016 Toyota Sienna van. I measured my SV1000 and figured I had about 1-2 inches of room to spare. I was thinking there is no way a second Generation SV1000, which shares many parts with its smaller 650 sibling could be that far off in size.

My hypothesis was correct. A SV650 does indeed fit inside a Toyota Sienna!

I have a BMW master mechanic friend in Chesapeake Virginia who has helped me acquire a few motos over the years. He recently let his son borrow his SV650 for a track day. His track session was a disaster. It did however give me an opportunity to scoop up a SV650 at a stupid good price.

I regret selling my 2003 SV650 so I decided ahh what the hell and took on what should be an easy project. I have a fuel pump install to tackle on my BMW then I’ll begin to piece this thing back together.

Never have deals like that fall in my lap.
A bike is about the only thing I have room for since I lost a garage when we moved.

Always remember that you can rent a small trailer from U-Haul cheap.

JHE888, I did that when I picked up a BMW R1150GS. If it will fit inside the van I prefer that over towing a trailer. Especially since it’s been raining off and on all day and this bike has exposed electrical circuitry from the track crash.

The SV650 actually fit better than a Bandit 400 that I stuffed in my van once. I brought a siphon and pumped out all the gas so this time it was an easy transport. The bent bars and lack of a gauge cluster made it really easy to get inside the van.

I read on a forum that the SV650 will fit inside a Honda minivan so I figured Toyota’s dimensions would be pretty close.

I've got a NT650 that somewhat resembles your SV650... Cool

It needs some attention/work to be road worthy (interior of the Gas Tank, as well as the Carburetors...I REALLY need to get on that!), but I'll NEVER sell my GT! Wink

I had one just like that and it a!so met it's demise during a track day. Some knucklehead passed me on the inside (was not allowed) and then ran out of room, panicked and took out my front tire.
We both went down. I slid into the infield grass and eventually stopped and was relatively unscathed. Raspberry on left knee and bruises on front of shoulder where jacket was pulled super tight.
He kicked his bike loose and it went end over end.
Initially he's kinda blaming me. I just said lets get our bikes back to the pitt before they send medical and we end up having to deal with that. Once back in the pitt he comes over apologizing. His friends had video taped it and had told him it was his fuck up.
Mine ended up being totaled and I immediately replaced it. Those are great little bikes.

LOL I'm not sure I'd call that "fitting" in the van.

The van did its job beautifully. It took maybe a minute or two to unload it.

Now for the fun part. Trying to find a first Gen gauge cluster on the fleabay that isn’t trashed.

It won’t need a lot to be back on the road, the bike runs really good and has low miles. I’ll need to swap in that new gas tank that I already have then source the following parts:

Handle bar
Mirrors
Foot pegs
Shifter
Clutch lever
Headlight

I have Suzuki coolant left over from when I had my previous SV650S. Because this bike was on the track it has no anti-freeze in its radiator right now so a coolant flush along with new anti freeze and a battery charge will be the first priorities.

I raced these for more than 20 years. I converted 6-8 of them to race bikes. I have every single stock part you can imagine sitting in bins in my barn, removed from brand new bikes. Not sure how you want to connect to discuss, but there it is...
Without a doubt perhaps the most versatile motorcycle ever made.

Wow, Stickman, first you get a smokin deal on the bike, then a miracle barn find on the parts.

You should go buy a lottery ticket.

I removed the back seat and put a dirt bike in my 1963 2 door Chevy Nova. Had to pull the front wheel and forks.

Hope your friend's son made it out of the crash better than the SV.

hrcjon, you have mail. Smile

Blackmore, my friend’s son is just fine. He came out unscathed but sadly the SV650 wasn’t as lucky. He is a cool kid, I’ve since helped him build his first ebike which is his new fascination. His ebike is FAST as hell and smokes the ebike I recently built.
