Good afternoon, SF. Today brought my second screw-in-a-tire issue in less than 3000 miles. I'm more than a little bit peeved about that.

Over the past couple of weeks I've been looking at new tires anyway. I'm looking now at the web site for the store who fixed my tire today, and they offer a road hazard warranty for roughly $40/tire.

In general, is a road hazard warranty worthwhile? Who's got experience to share? Thanks, all.

As expensive as tires are these days, it's worth it.

No idea where you're at but Costco includes road hazard warranty.

I always buy it. In fact the availability of a Road Hazard Warranty is a deciding factor in where I purchase tires.

I'd pass on a road hazard warranty, its like any other insurance you gamble something will happen and you'll be protected and the warranty company is gambling nothing will happen and they'll get to keep your money. The warranty company wins the most of the time otherwise they wouldn't offer the warranty. It only costs 10 to 20 bucks to plug a tire or you can plug it yourself for a few dollars.

I wouldn’t pay $40 a tire for it. I’ve had over two dozen nails and screws in the last 20 years and only two were non-repairable. At least half were near the end of the tire’s useful life. I’m always driving around new construction or hurricane roof repairs.

Sam’s Club includes it in the mounting, lifetime rotation and balancing @ $25/tire while I believe Walmart charges $10 for mounting and another $15 for the warranty plus lifetime mounting and balancing.

All but one were the passenger’s side rear tire. If you could get it on one tire only, I’d do it on that one.

Between the vehicles and trailers, I’m guessing 24 sets of 4 tires, so 96 tires times $40 each would be $3,840 for something I’ve needed twice. Let’s say the most expensive tires were $400 each so spending $3,840 to save $800 would not have been a wise choice for me.

Road hazard warranties are like buying a lottery ticket...A form of legalized gambling.. Odds are with the House.. ....Nice to have if ever realy needed.. But if you do not buy the lottery ticket you will never win the jackpot..... drill sgt.

With many (most?) AWD vehicles, if you have a non repairable failure in one tire that's over 20% worn they require all 4 tires be replaced. So the Road Hazard warranty has to replace them all.

Math Head finally kicked in.
Today's repair cost just under $30. Four or five of those over 5-6 years (or more, on this particular vehicle, to reach the tire's "lifetime") brings the breakeven point.

If I stand on one foot and lean my head over correctly when I think about it, it's peace of mind for less than the cost of a decent beer each month. I'm sold.

If I worked in or near an area with lots of construction I would.
I don't so I'll only have it when it's included, like from Costco.
If the insurance is willing to bet I won't need it, I'm willing to too.

Mine had a sidewall puncture and was swapped out with no charge for balancing, installation, etc...

20" truck tires aren't cheap, but I'd still consider it if I had a Civic.

I just bought a set of Pirelli tires at Sam's and a 3 year road hazard warranty is included in price.

Yes. I bought a performance car last year that came with hipo summers so I bought a 2nd set of wheels (aftermarket) and mounted the OEM summers on those, and new winter tires for my region on the factory wheels. 1 month with the brand new winters on, one of the wheels started dropping PSI. I took it back to my DT manager/tech, he checked it, said he couldn’t patch it, and I’d need a new tire. Something like $39 because I had road hazard on them. Tires cost a lot these days so it’s always worth it. Tires and brakes are the most important thing on the vehicle and something you shouldn’t scrimp on. Road hazard paid for itself in month 1 of the vehicle. I’ve had to use it several times over the years.

The roads here are terrible and they’re littered with crap that falls out of people’s trucks and trailers. I’ve gotten several tires replaced under road hazard warranty. All it takes is one unrepairable flat to pay for the policy on all four tires.

When Discount Tire asks me I say I'll buy two if you give me two for free.
They always have. It's paid off for me.

$40 per tire passed the point of diminishing returns about $25 ago. Also, if you travel at all extensively, you could find yourself with a flat or damaged tire hundreds of miles from the nearest Tire Discounters location.
