White gold Sub Date, blue dial.In fact, I'd like a donor blue dial from a two tone that's turned slightly purple - really like the look!

Not sure what dial I'd like on the Day Date, but it would have to be lumed.

My main requirement is the movement, not the look of it, but the durability and accuracy under duress. I do beat my watches like a rented mule. Rolex finishes their movements well, not like some, but without a display back, who's it for? Certainly not me and unless my watchmaker cares to give me a discount for each view, it's no big deal.

My Sinn 206 has a display back, nice to see it really, just a top grade 7750, pearlage, waves, real blue screws, watching the balance oscillate and the pallet moving the wheel, way nice.



Not an AP fan or PP or even VC. Lange & sone or others don't do it for me.

Might like a big case Tudor chrono from days of old.

This 37mm Seiko was about $40 used ten years ago. It was last set Nov 3rd, nine months ago, and has since lost 11 seconds.

The quest for the ideal watch might be one that never ends but at least for now I’ve stopped looking. I’ve even unloaded a few watches since getting it. This watch checks all the boxes I mentioned previously except for the rotating bezel but the 66 tritium tubes on the dial more than makes up for that. This thing is just crazy bright at night and so easy to read. It’s actually bright enough to use its lume to find things in a dark room!

I scooped one up when an online vendor was having a VERY nice sale. I managed to get a brand new example for less than their current price on the used market. It’s since jumped back up to its normal price on their website.

I finally understand the hype behind Ball Watches, their Fireman Storm Chaser DLC Glow is a hell of a watch!

I am soooooooooooooo tempted to buy one of their new divers and swap in a silver/Champaign dial/complete movement from one of Hamilton’s field watches. I think it’ll swap right in. They had a model similar to this but it is nearly impossible to find.

Basically this dial, movement, hands everything but put into a diver case. This mod also gives the Hamilton an 80+ hour power reserve as it has their newer ETA Powermatic80 movement.



It would be a round about way to recreate this discontinued and rare watch. But without that soulless quartz movement.

 
HMS hands, HAQ (high accuracy quartz) movement, stainless case and a sapphire crystal, and a simple dial with normal numbers (no Roman numerals or fancied up numbers, or missing numbers) and marks for every second. A date complication is OK if that's the way it comes, but not required.

I always seem to lust after discontinued models...

My watches HAVE to have day/date, it's a quirk of mine.
Automatics are preferred
Chronographs are nice

Tag had an Aquaracer with all of the above using their Calibre 16 movement, that was discontinued the year after I found out about it, and a year before I had the money saved up for it.
I can get it as the larger Carrera model, but the Aquaracer had the size, shape, and look I wanted.

Luckily Dave T. was able to get me into a Luminox P-38 Auto, Day/Date, Chronograph, but I still look around for that Tag I missed out on.

Another vote for Ball watches--tritium lamps needed no light exposure, anti-magnetic, rugged, Swiss-made, a bit expensive but you can stretch for one if you really want to. I have 5 of them, along with a couple of Omegas, two Breitlings, and assorted others. When I was active, the Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon GMT was what I wore while working.

Ahhh, the never ending quest...if such thing existed, there'd only be one watch out there. Thank goodness there isn't.

It's like knives...depending on the intended usage, there's probably no ONE ideal knife. Which is why we tend to own a few different types...

As for me, if I had to settle for ONE watch, it would likely be a better-quality, multi-function solar-powered digital variant. Easy to read, multiple times, alarms, back light, stopwatch, waterproof (the solar power means you don't have to replace batteries, so maintains watertight integrity).

The Casio Pro Trek PRW2500 with moon phase and tide functions is pretty high on my list.

$.02 worth.

I thought mine did. Then I got a Glycine Combat Sub, and there's frankly no comparison overall, but especially as far as lume goes. For the $48 I paid for the Duro on an Amazon sale, it's a damn good watch, but the lume is unquestionably where it falls down. Better lume might possibly price it out of the range that makes it such a good deal, however.

For me, the Combat Sub is about ideal. It's extremely consistent in gaining five seconds a day so far, so that gives me some hope that maybe I can get it regulated down to maybe a second or two fast at some point. That's both a compliment to it and a minor niggle - it does pretty much everything I'd want a watch to do. I do like a day/date complication, but having date and dive bezel is honestly about as many extra features as I really need. It's very thin, light, comfortable, has a sapphire crystal and 200 meters of water resist which is more than enough for my needs. At 42mm, it's right in the sweet spot for my large wrist. Charcoal dial and bezel on stainless goes with tons of strap options, so I can dress it up or down if need be. Great for daily wear and easily capable of being a dress watch. If I could keep only one, so far, this is the one.
