cjevansAustralia: NSW riot squad police to be armed with military-style machine guns
Following the Victorian Police getting some 200 Sig Sauer "machine guns" is this delightfully labelled headline:
NSW riot squad police to be armed with military-style machine guns
Riot squad police officers in NSW will reportedly be armed with military-style machine guns as part of an increase in security against terrorism.
It is expected to be announced today that the 100 officers from the Public Order and Riot squad will be given Colt M4 Carbine weapons for use in case of terror attacks.
“We will work quickly with government to train officers and roll out longarm firearms to officers across the metropolitan area,” NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told The Daily Telegraph.
The increase in firepower for police follows the release of the coroner’s report into the fatal Lindt Cafe terror siege in 2014 and recent terror attacks around the world, including Melbourne.
Mr Fuller told the Telegraph the force had identified “an appropriate firearm” and made the recommendation to the government.
“In this increasingly dangerous and rapidly changing environment, I recognise the need to adapt our response model to be able to dispatch tactical police from multiple locations across Sydney,” he said.

But, at least we don't have to worry that bullet resistant glass is demeaning.
Not quite yet.

RogueJSKIt is a .22. Perhaps they're needed to counter the threat posed by radical ISIS-inspired squirrels?
(More likely, they just slapped up the first M4-ish photo they could find.)

divilAlthough the laws to possess firearms are not something I would ever wish to live under, there are still lawfully held civilian rifles, shotguns, revolvers and semi auto pistols in Australia.

No sir, not a confiscation, an amnesty.
And there's another underway, to you know, keep the firearms out of the hand of criminals.
It is not improbable to be a firearm owner; a lot of paperwork, safety, training, security of firearms ... and perhaps location.

... a barrel shadow is projected by the WML location when on the rail.
