Been running Microsoft Office 365 for a while, but due to a change in a number of personal circumstances, I'm thinking my better option would be to simply buy a pair of licenses for my desktop and laptop and forego the annual $100 365 charges. I have to run this software for work, so stuff like LibreOffice are a no go. I found this online purchase option that seems to have good reviews, but since I haven't bought software in a very long time, I thought I'd try and tap the knowledge base here first.

Office 2019 Home & Business

So what's my best and least expensive option for buying a couple Office licenses?

Amazon can't beat that price as I just checked.

$69 is the retail price for Microsoft 365 and I pay only $58.99 for it via Amazon.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Does your work have a home-use program? Most enterprise-level have it in their license. If you are using office365, you should be able to use on-line versions for free anyway.

I work for myself as a contractor, so all my hardware and software is owned by me. I've looked at the online versions of MS Office apps and I don't believe that is going to be a solution.

Again, I really would prefer to get out from under the annual subscription deal.

Sadly they are moving to only SAAS (software as a service), esp for business use.

Starting this year I am unable to find the current standalone MS Office for Business (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc...)

Not Best Buy (tried digital download and was informed "not availbale").

Not Amazon.

Likely having to go to a centrally administered Office 365 monthly subscription based model for new employees

Bill Gates has been wanting to do this for the past 20 years and now internet is fast enough to allow it.

The way it works with Adode Creative Cloud (also SAAS only) is the software resides on your computer but when you launch it I think it checks a licensing server to make sure you have paid for that particular month.

I was able to find the 2021 version of Office for Home and Business on Amazon. It's a downloadable version. Was this not what you were looking for?

I also bought on amazon, and I save my keys in multiple places.

I am adamantly opposed to the 365 thing, and I HATE adobe CC.

So if there is a problem reaching the licensing server when you want to use the software, you're screwed?

Is the permission verification performed each time the you want to launch the software? Or just at the first launch in each "software rental" period (calendar month?) and then recorded on the customer's local computer, where it will be good for the rest of the month?
