I've been using Surpass Hosting since 2007 and have nothing to complain about. The few times I've had to contact them they've been knowledgeable and friendly. They send updates on service downtime, upgrades to their infrastructure, etc.

Basically use anyone that is NOT owned by Endurance International Group. I used site5 for years and then Endurance International Group bought them out and the customer service went straight down the crapper. I went to InMotion Hosting and have been very happy with their customer service.
