I was mowing the grass a few weeks back up along the fence line of my neighbor's pasture. I just caught its tail end slithering around a fence post and disappearing on the other side. I saw maybe a foot of it, but it appeared to be sizable in diameter.

The other day I was cutting the same area and found this:

Well, today we discovered a cottonmouth is living under our house AC compressor. It's just a juvenile at about 16", but it is being evicted, regardless.

With that size, I’m guessing a Black Rat snake; one of the most helpful snakes to have around, unless you’re a bird. If there are any venomous snakes around, there won’t be for long; these guys will find them and eat them.

Out here in the land of snakes, and especially the largest variety of rattlesnake species, I find the AC compressors are a favorite spot for them. I am always very circumspect when I begin to step on that concrete pad for any reason.
