Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown April 06, 2018, 02:42 PM
jbcummingsSeems like I heard about this sometime back, but this was a good article for us ordinary guys. I wonder what could be done to provide personal armor plating with this stuff. If it’s 3 times lighter than rolled steel, you’d think that could be a good application. Probably way cost prohibitive at this point, but a good application.

DSgrouseWhere this would be greatly beneficial is the automotive industry.
I can see quite a few uses for crumple zones, frames, inside hollow cast parts.

gearhoundsThe vid in the link is indistinct, but this one shows the material stopping a round of 7.62x51. this stuff could make a good replacement for rifle resistant vests, especially if it can be formed into seamless side protection.
It would also be excellent for the doors of modern police cruisers. My Interceptor has armor in the front doors, and lighter is indeed better.

Pipe SmokerI hadn’t heard of steel foam, but I read that titanium foam was being developed for hip joint replacement. Lighter, and better adhesion and integration.
