By retirement, he means not running for re-election

quote:
WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the longest-serving Senate leader in history, announced Thursday on his 83rd birthday that he won’t seek re-election next year, bringing an end to his four-decade career in the chamber.

He knew his odds of re-election were slim and none.
His ONLY claim to rest on was his blocking Garland’s chance at being a supreme. The rest…not so much.

Yep.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Hoping the good people of Kan-tuk-ee can begin a groundswell movement and produce a solid bulwark replacement.

Good news. Turtle has real health issues and also has permanently hurt feelings. Hopefully the good folks in Kentucky replace him with a solid conservative.

I started reading up on the three front runners, and like what I see in Cameron a great deal over Barr and Morris.

Good. And his last hand-picked protege (Daniel Cameron) got his ass handed to him by over 70K votes in the 2023 Gov race, so he’s out of it too in the Primaries. The McConnell Era of running the Kentucky Republican Party is over. Say what you will, but the Rand Paul wing of the Kentucky Republican Party is in ascendancy.

Look for incumbent Gov Andy Beshear to run and win in the Dem primary in 2026. With a Dem LtGov as the new incumbent, the Gov Mansion would still be safe for the Dems thru the next Gubernatorial Election in 2027.

And politics are the “damnest” in Kentucky.

Another hopeful sign for the Trump presidency. Now we have to make sure that the Republicans keep the seat.

Cameron is not a good choice if we want to win.

Rumor is Andy Barr is also wanting to run for the seat.

Mitch -is- the Deep State.

He’s just the ‘other’ public side of it. R, D, doesn’t matter.

He’s been there for all that has been exposed by DOGE, and the even greater part yet to be found.

He announced a while back that he was stepping down as Senate GOP leader. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.
