They have some decent prices and wider selection compared to local places. I’m trying to see what kinds of experiences people have had with buying from them. We would buy straight out with no trade and using our own financing.

Lots of horror stories out there about paperwork issues, cars not being in the condition described, lies, misrepresentstion, runarounds, fraud, etc.

The result has been a number of lawsuits, as well as them having their business/dealership licenses being pulled and being barred from operating in several states due to all their problems.

With no trade and your own financing, you might be OK. A lot of the complaints are from the financial issues they have, they are deep in debt. They have good deals now to raise cash and pay off 1.3 billion or so that they just restructured recently.
Watch out for "flood cars" and other hidden issues.
If it's a "super deal" spend a little on a third party inspection.

My big kid about six years ago, he picked it out, they delivered it to the house(we lived about an hour east of Raleigh), he had a 7 day try out period.

He liked it, nothing was broken or damaged. So he began making payments. It’s a Nissan Altima. Had less than 30k miles on it.

I'm surprised Carvana hasn't been completely shut down by the FEDS yet for their total scam of not acquiring titles.

There are scores of people with cars that can't be titled.

Never bought a car from them, but sold them one this year. Very easy process. About 15 minutes online and maybe 15 minutes when they showed up to pick it up. They offered more than a local dealership and CarMax.

Interesting how responders who have actually used them report positive experiences, and the negatives are "I heard it somewhere."

A co-worker's son bought a car (2012 Honda Civic with low miles) from them and has had no problems. Going to Lenoir City (some 120 miles from here) to pick it up, I did find odd. If anyone wishes I can get more details.

Wherever you buy your car, be careful. Inspect it yourself, including putting it in the air so you can look underneath (I'm getting to that), or have your trusted (if any) mechanic look at it. A local dealer sold a 2018 Nissan Altima with its rear suspension rotted away to the point that a control arm broke. The crossmember it was attached to was no better. Replacing it would have had its own issues. It looked fine from the top. Had that car been brought to me first, I'd have spotted that and given it thumbs down.

Mere internet grumbling/hearsay from some anonymous unhappy customers is one thing. That could be worth overlooking in the face of actual users reporting positive experiences.

But when a number of outlets put out reports over several years about how troubled the company's operation is, and multiple class action lawsuits in various states are filed, and state Attorneys General start stepping in to investigate their shady practices and suspend their licenses, that's a whole 'nother league.

You don't get much redder of a flag.

But hey, you know a guy who knows a guy who had a good experience, so surely it'll be fine, right?

Like Marzy posted, one of the etceteras is having to sue to get a title. During the recent used car madness, they were paying the highest in industry for a trade and they are minimally staffed so lost track of countless titles. However, that didn't stop them from reselling the vehicle. The systemic title issue is one of the reasons State AGs stepped in.

Another red flag that hasn't been mentioned yet came from the YouTube channel CarEdge. Like I previously wrote, they paid the highest in industry for used cars compared to their peers (i.e. national dealerships), but the new piece of information is they spent the least on reconditioning vehicles before putting back on lot. In other words, they didn't look as hard as their peers for underlying problems before reselling.

Bought my wife's car from them. 2017 Explorer with 25k on it. Brand new tires and 25k service included. No issues other than having to pay a bit extra to have it delivered up here in the Forest. Title took a little longer than standard in MN but they sent me a second temp. plate without a quibble. I'd do it again. Their prices are competitive and the 7 day 'no questions return' period is a plus.

I’ve got a mechanic I work with that looks over any vehicle before I buy. He’s saved me on a couple in the past and I’ve turned down a few when they didn’t want to let a mechanic look it
