A feel good story for today with video at the link.
"Bodhi, a 9-week-old Saint Bernard puppy, is recovering this week after suffering a near-fatal choking attack on Sunday.
Police in North Reading rescued the pup when its owner, local resident Megan Vitale, ran into the station at noon on Sunday. In a statement, police say they found the dog "not breathing, limp and unresponsive" after it had choked on food.
A dramatic life-saving rescue then took place over 10 minutes, all of which was captured by multiple surveillance video cameras in the police station lobby.
North Reading firefighters joined police officers Jorge Hernandez, Peter DiPietro and Joseph Aleo in the rescue, performing chest compressions and patting the pup's back. Eventually, the culprit-object came up, and officers delivered oxygen to revive Bodhi, who went home with his owner and is now being treated by a veterenarian.
Firefighters used an oxygen mask designed specifically for pets, according to police. They say special public safety training and equipment have been implemented in the town in recent years to prepare for pet emergencies.
"Even though we are not faced with this kind of incident every day, the officers reacted just as they would in any emergency situation," Chief Michael P. Murphy said in a statement. "We are hopeful that the puppy will make a full recovery."
