Right now I'm feeling the need to have some old-fashioned cruising luxury in my autumn years, and my mind is moving inexorably in the direction of MB and the SL-series of two-seaters. I'm very lucky to have had around twenty MB of one kind or another over the last forty-something years, and my local specialist is a good friend, as well as the possessor of a shop to die for.

Anybody here with real-life experience of ownership, please step up. Just to say that my eyes are wide one on this one, having had an '83 380 SL for almost fifteen years - a California car, here in UK, yet.

TIA

Never mind. I thought this was a karma thread...

The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.

Beautiful cars.
I have no experience with the newer SL350/500 but had the opportunity to drive the 1990 era SL450 for a while and it sure was a lot of fun. Smile

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Find an AMG, even in GB with the speed laws you'll at least get that great v8 growl out of the exhaust.

I have an SL65 AMG. It is a great car, terribly fast and gets around 12 mpg around town. What's not to love?

They can be expensive to maintain but so far I have not had any major repairs.<knocks on wood>. The ultimate cruiser.
