Right now I'm feeling the need to have some old-fashioned cruising luxury in my autumn years, and my mind is moving inexorably in the direction of MB and the SL-series of two-seaters. I'm very lucky to have had around twenty MB of one kind or another over the last forty-something years, and my local specialist is a good friend, as well as the possessor of a shop to die for. Anybody here with real-life experience of ownership, please step up. Just to say that my eyes are wide one on this one, having had an '83 380 SL for almost fifteen years - a California car, here in UK, yet. TIA

Never mind. I thought this was a karma thread... John The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.

Beautiful cars. I have no experience with the newer SL350/500 but had the opportunity to drive the 1990 era SL450 for a while and it sure was a lot of fun. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Find an AMG, even in GB with the speed laws you'll at least get that great v8 growl out of the exhaust. 83 380SL, Had a yellow with tan interior then an 86 white with dark burgundy

I have an SL65 AMG. It is a great car, terribly fast and gets around 12 mpg around town. What's not to love? They can be expensive to maintain but so far I have not had any major repairs.<knocks on wood>. The ultimate cruiser.
