Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
I know they settled with the parents from sandy hook out of court. But I wonder if that case had any bearing on the decision as well? Just thinking out my butt This business will get out of control. Yep. It's kind of hard to tell the difference between a partial move and a staged move when all you see is what's on the surface, and nobody in their right mind would tell Massachusetts up front that they're leaving entirely until they've got minimal assets to move.

Once they get up and running in TN they will do the math and move whatever is remaining in MA south. (and as previous OP mentioned - after current Union contract(s) expire)

I bet the could if they wanted to, but... Moving the metalworking operation, with it's huge and sometimes very old machinery (I've seen where they're still using machinery from the '30s) would be a daunting task. And I bet they have a lot of highly skilled, experience workers driving that machinery they need. This is probably especially true for their older product lines (thinking specifically about the all metal revolver lines.) They could probably close the Springfield plant and lay off the workers. But reproducing that operation in TN would likely be tough and expensive. Of course, I could be wrong. But the fact that they're keeping that plant going suggests otherwise.

That would go to where the attack happened, not where the gun was made.

S&W had nothing to do w/ Sandy Hook. It was Remington who settled w/ the victim families of Sandy Hook. The only guns fired at Sandy Hook were a Bushmaster XM-15 and a Glock 20. At the time, Remington was the parent company to Bushmaster.

I wonder if the Mass. bean counters have sat down and figured out just how many tax dollars are moving South? It has to be a bunch!!

As companies go, S&W is not particularly big. In total it has 2,200 employees (in all it's locations), and it sounds like 1,000 will be staying in MA. They have income of about $320 million on sales of about $1.1 Billion. MA's corporate tax rate seems to be 8%. So that would make their total corporate tax about $25 million. And, of course, since the entire operation isn't moving, MA will likely still get some part of that. For comparison MA's total state revenues (including federal money) is about $50 billion. And, of course, the bean counters don't make political decisions, politicians do. and given the fact that S&W's tax revenue is a small drop in a large bucket, and that the state government is rabidly anti-gun, they're probably more than happy to see S&W leave. One last point, as far as I've seen, the anti "assault rifle" manufacturing law as been proposed, but not passed. So I'm wondering if that's what's behind this, or if it's just a cost cutting measure.

You can't only look at S&W's revenue when evaluating the impact in MA. All those employees buy cars in MA, own homes in MA, buy food and consumer goods in MA. In addition, hundreds of other companies service S&W daily/weekly. This all adds up. And by late 2023 I can almost guarantee that all of S&W will be in TN/South.

The hostile laws may not have been passed, but it doesn't take much of a crystal ball to see that they're coming. It's only good business to get out before the hammer drops. And some machinery and equipment is easier to move than other. Again, it's probably good business to do it in stages. Move the easier stuff, and get settled in the new facility and community. When things are built and running smoothly, there will be more corporate energy to concentrate on moving the tough stuff.

I actually went onto their Facebook page and brought up the subject. I got a "maybe we'll think about it" type of answer. If enough people ping them about it, maybe doing so will get on their radar.

Removing the lock would be lawsuits waiting to happen. Once they put that stupid shit on their revolvers, taking it off would be considered reckless behavior, disregarding the safety of their customers.

Revolvers will continue to be manufactured in the current facilities in Springfield Ma. HQ & everything polymer or pistol related is relocating to the Knoxville area in Tennessee. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…
