Vehicle AGM battery venting question

gpbst3Vehicle AGM battery venting question
I just replaced the battery in my 2019 Ram 1500 with an Everstart AGM from Walmart. A little package with the battery says it must be vented to the outside. The package contains a plastic 90 degree elbow and a small plug. It says the battery should be hooked up to the battery vent line. My old battery which was not a AGM did not have a vent line nor do I see one. Do I just discard the parts or connect them and just let it vent into the engine bay?
Thanks

P250UA5My assumption is that under the hood = vent to atmosphere
Vent tube is probably intended for applications where the battery is inside the vehicle.

trapper189What vehicle? Year, make, model. I’ve had several vehicles that had battery vent lines with under the hood batteries. I think motorcycles and ATVs as well.

Black92LXInteresting.
I have switched to AGM batteries in 4 vehicles now. None have said such a thing or came with anything but the battery.
Is that a deep cycle battery?

powermadSome Kenworth trucks have the batteries (AGM) under the passenger seat.
They are vented to the outside with hoses connecting them.
Otherwise they are already outside of the cab.
If the cabs HVAC intake is under the hood of a vehicle I could see the batteries being vented outside of that area.

There should be an oblong vent at the top to connect a vent tube if needed.

Right there in black and green not even buried in a wall of text.

I don’t see a battery vent tube in the parts diagrams, so I’d throw the elbow away.
The AGMs I have in my truck had holes in the side of the top of the batteries that the 90 degree elbows fit into and you’d hook the hose, if you had one, to the other end of the elbow.

petrThe vent elbows and plugs are for applications inside the vehicle cabins. A lot of manufacturers are putting the batteries inside trunks and under seats, these installations require the venting accessories. Under your hood and you do not need them.

jimmy123xAn AGM is supposed to be sealed and not vent at all. The parts you're referencing are only used IF the battery is installed in the passanger compartment. Under the hood is fine.

This.
As stated, AGM battery's do not vent, they are sealed. Lifeline AGM batteries can be equalized, they are the only brand of AGM I know of that can do this without battery damage.

nhracecraft^^^I have an aftermarket replacement AGM Battery that has a vent. The original OEM Battery was an AGM Battery, and it had a vent. The battery is mounted in the trunk of an Audi S5, and it has all the requisite vent line plumbing to vent the battery to the outside of the vehicle.
Apparently AGM Batteries (at least some of them!) have vents, AND there are vehicles that are designed to use such vented AGM Batteries! Just sayin'

gpbst3Thanks to all, I feel confident I do not need to vent my battery since its under the hood and not inside the vehicle compartment.
I will try to post a picture later today of the wording on the vent parts bag. The wording just seemed a little vague.

trapper189It’s not that some have vents. They all do.
All sealed lead acid absorbent glass mat batteries have vents as a safety feature to prevent them from bursting if charged improperly. The sealed part means against the liquid acid from leaking out; not from hydrogen and oxygen gas from escaping if the battery is charged improperly.

4MUL8RMost of the batteries without visible molded in vents have a small hole at both sides of the case. It is in the center, on the short side, and is not very big...maybe 3 mm? Obviously a vent is a vent, but the elbow and tube prevent any vented substances from flowing into the engine compartment without a specific direction...down.

Anush My 2005 VW Touareg V8 had the battery under the drivers seat. No outside venting.

nhracecraft^^^I just watched five videos on changing the battery on a 2005 Touareg,...All five show and mention disconnecting the vent for the battery, the tubing for which exits at the bottom of the battery tray/enclosure...Just sayin'
