In a prototype automotive shop I worked at, a heat gun like the Harbor Freight one was used, but it had a metal C at the end. The cup shape created a nice hot area for the sumitube to shrink onto brake and fuel lines.

corded Harbor freight (less than $10 ) at least 10 yrs ago. actually still works after being flooded (AUG 16) with 41 inches for several days. ...drill sgt.

You don't need a huge adjustment range on a heat gun to do electrical heat shrink. I don't think I've ever had a heat gun with more adjustability than high/low (if that). You just put the heat on it long enough to shrink the heat shrink but not long enough to melt anything.

Around $20 at home depot Wagner Heat gun.

I used it to heat shrink the connections for 10 lights on my deck.
