HRKTelemarketers - Spoofing Cell Numbers
quote:
One got through this morning, though. I was expecting a call, so I grabbed it.
Me: "Ensigmatic here."
Telespammer: "William?"
Me: "I'm afraid you have the wrong number."
TS: "Well, maybe you can help me. My name is Paul and I'm calling on behalf of the Disabled Veterans of America ..."
Me: "No, I can't help you." <click>
I'm betting that is a machine voice call as well, the systems have improved, and the new game is to fake a call to someone, listen for a response, no, yes, then move to another line in the script. It's all recorded, but it does sound like you have a live human on the line.
I've received several like that, just start talking while they are an it won't change the script being played.
then, Clickamundo...

10-7 leoIn the last 36 hours, my caller ID indicates I've called myself about 16 times. The number making the call and the number receiving the call, one in the same.

Same.
The previous gag was to use my NPA-NXX (area code and prefix). But the past 24 hours a dozen calls from my own number. I’m sick of this shit! I use DND but my number is also used for work. I’m not buying 2 phones and having 2 monthly cellphone contracts. These mother fuckers are wearing everyone out!

I work nights, so I sleep in the morning, or try to. You cannot begin to imagine how much I HATE these people. Public execution and dismemberment is too good for them. I'd be 100% behind the government putting together a task force to track them to whatever third-world shithole they are operating from and sending predator drones to lauch missiles up their ass. Or just nuke 'em from orbit, if that's what it takes. I'm well beyond caring.
It makes it all that much worse that you can't trace them, or even pick up the phone and screw with them because it's all automated recordings. It doesn't even work to block the number, since they never spoof the same one twice.
i wish you would stop being so bashful and come out of your shell and tell us what you really think

ChanceMy work phone is a NYC area code. Over the last few months I have been getting robo calls in freaking Chinese! I google it and I guess it is a scam to scare Chinese immigrants into thinking there is something wrong with their immigration status.

nhtagmemberif money were no object and I wanted to start a business, it would be one that tracks down telemarketing robot call centers and then goes in and destroys them

OzarkwoodsI blocked every unknown number that called from my area code. It took a couple of months, I now rarely get a spam calls. I was getting two to four calls a day.

I got that one for the first time the other day. At least it was the first time that they actually left a voice mail since I never answer an unknown number. The voicemail was all in Chinese.

flashguyI get a lot of calls that I answer on the off chance they might be a friend out of town (I do have a few), and all I get is clicking noises.
Lately I've been getting lots of calls from little towns in Texas I've never heard of. I don't answer those.
