Looting in Venezuela *** now insurrection
Socialism.

"Venezuela (Reuters) – A wave of looting by hungry mobs across Venezuela has left streets of shuttered shops in provincial towns and pushed some store owners to arm themselves with guns and machetes, stirring fear that the turmoil could spread to the capital Caracas…"

The stories are getting pretty wild. That bit about a mob slaughtering a herd of cattle in the field is something I don't think I've ever heard of before. Apparently a big grocery store got looted a couple of weeks ago, with the Bolivarian Stosstruppen standing by and watching helplessly.

What happens when one of those mobs suddenly decides to clear out a government warehouse? Are government office buildings next?

And the most disappointing part of all this, the suffering and demise its completely unnecessary.

When you choose socialism... this is what you have chosen. It is the completely necessary consequence of their choice.

Once you have gone down this path, the looting only ends when there is nothing left to loot.

Then, socialism ends... and a re-birth of civil society is possible.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Necessary? Certainly inevitable.

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People again must learn to work, instead of living on public assistance. ~ Cicero 55 BC

One hopes. The civilized opposition just can't seem to get any traction.

They are out of stuff to loot. Run away inflation means most can't buy stuff if there was anything to buy. I'm guessing they are weeks to months until all out revolt.

It's very necessary, it's a lesson to all...
Yes, but the progressives here that support socialism are either too blind or too stupid to learn that lesson.

I just checked. It takes something special to reduce them to abject poverty and desperation.

If the people had the same weapons govt. used to oppress them, this would have been over long ago and starving children would have full bellies tonight. Why do I need a weapon of war? Venezuela et. al. is why. As it is I am nervous we can only have neutered weapons...

Excuse me but you're waiving your finger at Socialism as if it was the exclusive cause of situations like this.
I've been through a similar (if not that rotten to the core) situation in Argentina and socialism wasn't part of the equation.

Fuck Chavez/Maduro regime and those who profited from it and have now subjected the venezuelans to their current misery. Honestly, do not care for the people of Venezuela and they wouldn't register in my radar if our previous democratic regime wasn't so inclined to copycat and improve on their methods and doctrine.

If they all had 70 year old six shooters they would have a new government. They don't need "weapons of war" (although I don't oppose it) all they need is free and fair elections to elect a capitalist government (or at least one that doesn't steal from them).

It drives me crazy that they have the ability (proven resources) to be one of the richest countries in the world and their people are staving to death and unable to get medicine.

How fucked up is that?

I disagree. They had fair elections. They foolishly fell for the promise of egalitarianism. Once in power this oppression is not so easily removed. I would not want to resist tyranny with a six shooter. I want what they have. Then it is over before it starts.

I am not saying to actually arm them with six shooters. I am saying they have been oppressed and the chance to rise up and take back their country is not availiable to them because the government has removed it as an option. If they all had guns of any sort and the will they'd have a chance. Hell if they just had top grade pointy sticks they have a chance.

I pray for the people of Venezuela and hope they take control of their destiny either by vote or weapon. There is no reason for that countries citizens to live like they do. They could all live way, way better.

Which is exactly where I was going with my 'unnecessary' comment. This country has a commodity that could both sustain it and foster other industry around it, yet because the government is based on an ideology that has never once worked anywhere on the planet, and that is antithetical to basic human behavior, the people find themselves in the predicament they're in.

I follow a blogger on Tumblr who lives in Venezuela. Some of his posts are very in-depth about the police brutality, the lack of money and retailers moving to weighing paper money rather than counting it, food lines, the thefts and riots, the conditions of vehicles and whatnot. It is insane. Very eye-opening for sure.
