I drove by the airfield where they were operating that helicopter (last photo) on the Boundary fire. That thing is a freaking huge beast. Cool to see them in action.

So the Burro fire must be one of the most critical, as there are a limited number of the DC-10 VLAT's available. Some years have had as many as 7, I believe. In 2013, for the Yarnell Hill fire (where 19 firefighters lost their lives), there were only two in the US, and both were in in use on Yarnell Hill. We could watch them from our house.

Is that a live roadrunner on top of the brick column (picture at the top of this page)?

thats not a real roadrunner - its a distressed metal decoration - the fellow's yard has a lot of these all over the place

The Sky Crane is up again and flying early today - haven't sen any of the DC10's yet

we seem to have a bit of cloud cover moving through this morning - might help to keep the temps down which would be nice - a 20% chance of rain but I doubt we'll see a drop

there was a couple of large thunderheads here late afternoon and all they generated was a few lightning strikes - not what we needed

Dewpoints up this way are still running in the 30's and 40's, forecasting into the 50's by week's end, so maybe the summer storms will finally get moving.

Wickenburg has little metal sculptures bolted to the sidewalk in the old part of town, various desert creatures.
