Victim of Life's Circumstances |
Some may think I'm crazy but I traded a 2004 Corvette convertible and $3000 for a 2016 CX-9 fwd Grand Touring 1-owner Alabama car 85k miles that has been babied. My vette was very nice but wrong season and my wife and I, both 71 had a little trouble with it sitting so low and just didn't use it. I liked owning it but didn't care much about driving it. Next vert is going to be a Lexus SC430. I've still got a 2011 Durango Citadel Hemi, my 08 Ridgeline, a 2011 Toyota Avalon and mama's 2015 Sienna awd van. I don't drive but about 5000 miles a year but I love to play with cars - lucky to have a best friend who is a dealer and he treats me well when I buy and trade. I've lived here since 1955 and know who is best at fixing what but most are my age and retiring but a couple moonlight for cash and I do my best to buy well kept one owner vehicles and then keep them nice. Mama will drive the Mazda mostly. It's the Grand Touring model with 2.5L turbo, loaded with tech and it's pretty quick and handles good. Rides quiet, wife is on a trip now and says she's getting high 20's hwy mpg. About the only advice I found researching was stay up to date on oil changes. I've got an excellent independent Honda mechanic and I'll bet he can handle Mazda too. Anyone with experience good or bad with CX-9s and the 2.5L turbo? Crappy pictures but the car will stand up to a close inspection. So Long Friend ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

safe & sound |
I've had a 16 CX-9 identical to yours except white since new. Just put brakes and rotors on it at 160K miles, and that's it. There was a rear suspension component that is known to squeak, and if it does Mazda replaces it at their expense. Only other issue we have had with ours is that the radio display sometimes doesn't want to work when it's cold outside. After the car warms up inside it's fine.

I like the sound of that! I get teased by my Honda guy - I bought my 08 Ridgline new and it has 65 k and may still be on same brake pads - I think he did change them but I am easy on brakes and don't tailgate. Those habits came from 25 years of hauling produce and anytime I spilled a load it was money out of my pocket. Feather those babies. I drive fast when I can but always defensive. Mama is good too. she keeps cars cleaner than anyone I've ever seen and takes charge of oil changes and routine maintenance of whatever she's driving. She's been driving the sienna for the last several years but is driving Mazda now. I drove the Sienna today for the first time in a while and it's like new, 70k miles and runs just right. Keeping it just because it's such a good one. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Good choice on the Mazda. Our Accord with almost 280k miles died in June 2020 so I had a crash course in 2016-2017 SUVs and the CX-9 was my first choice. My wife preferred the third option, a Volvo XC90, so we ended up with the Volvo and chose to go with the extended warranty instead. I like the Volvo a little better than the Mazda in the cabin but it’s notoriously less reliable, more expensive to fix, and uses premium gas. I’m a little wistful every time I see the CX-9 version we would have purchased. In 28 months, the extended warranty has more than paid for itself on the Volvo. *** "Aut viam inveniam aut faciam (I will either find a way or make one)." -- Hannibal Barca

Mazdas are very underrated IMO I'm pretty certain I'm gong to get another Mazda when this current beater I have (2012 Mazda 5) quits working and not a Honda like I was thinking. Mazdas still are fun to drive and have nice styling and are very well made. I've not been as impressed with Honda on the other hand, they seem very safe and boring and build quality is not like it used to be.

not sure how many miles on the vette and I am certainly not an expert. But that would of been a tough trade especially adding additional money to get the mazda with 85k on the clock. But understand the vette not fitting your needs. Good luck with the Mazda. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I bought the Vette from same guy in Feb, Valentine's Day to be specific. It was a hit. Paid $19,400. It cost me about $400 a month to drive a Corvette convertible for spring, summer and fall. Certainly not the best deal I've ever made but sure not the worst - Ya got to pay to play. Vette has 63k miles and is on the lot for $18,600. Mazda was $19,900. Profit ain't a dirty word. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Only thing I've heard is to change out the Mazda's auto trans fluid more often than the owner's manual states for longevity.

My wife's car is the little brother to yours -- 2015 CX-5 -- but we've had it since new and it's been bulletproof, no issues whatsoever, and regular maintenance has been relatively cheap. It's underpowered, a bit noisy, and the "sport" seats aren't particularly comfortable, but it's been unerringly reliable.

We bought a 2015 CX-5 Grand Touring new in October 2014. It's been rock solid for eight years now and drives really well. It has 65k on it now. It's my wife's car and its her favorite of all she's had; she loves it. I'll definitely buy another Mazda. We have had two, a 2012 and are currently driving a 2018. Actually it's Mrs. Pals. My brother was an engineer at Mazda so we got a deal. Both cars were great. We had well over 100k on the older one and were not going to sell it but my brother was retiring and the 2018 became available. No issues. Brakes and tires. She is very happy with her ride. Jim
