One man dead in Panama City home invasion

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE: 05/26/2020 5:40 P.M.

Around 6 a.m. Bay County deputies got a call about a man breaking and entering near the 2300 block of Mound Avenue.

Neighbors say a call like this is very usual for the area.

"It's uncommon, this is a nice people neighborhood, it don't make no sense," said Gary Woodring.

Woodring was staying at a friends house off Mound Avenue.

"My buddy got a phone call from a neighbor saying hey, the police are all along the road, everything's taped off, blocked off, what's going on," said Woodring.

Just five houses from Woodring, a homeowner encountered 31-year-old Georgia resident, Nathan Jerrell Edwards, who was staying at a nearby AirBnB.

Nathan Jerrell Edwards, decedent

Deputies tell us Edwards was seen walking erratically through the neighborhood.

"The homeowner was actually out in the driveway loading gas cans into his vehicle," said Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford.

Deputies say the homeowner felt uncomfortable when he saw Edwards approaching him in a threatening manner, so he went inside.

"The homeowner then heard the front door crash and the subject basically crashed through the glass and entered the home. A female inside the residence was in the living room area on the couch and the subject attacked her," said Ford.

Deputies say that prompted the homeowner to go upstairs and grab a handgun.

They tell us he took shots at Edwards from the upstairs balcony of the home.

Edwards continued to attack the woman and the homeowner ran downstairs and fired more shots.

"Resulting in the death of the subject that broke in," said Ford.

Leaving neighbors surprised about the incident.

"I couldn't believe it, cause I've never known of any violence or anything happening around here in the year and a half that we've been here," said nearby neighbor, Ronald Collins.

Law enforcement found drugs at the AirBnB where Edwards was staying. [Surprise, surprise]

Four other in the rental are now facing drug and child neglect charges.

This one is close to me. That's my hometown and these are relatives of mine by marriage. My Dad used to live on that street in the early 80's, about a block from where this happened. It's a quiet neighborhood. We are all shaken by the event, but glad it turned out on the good side.

Thankfully, your kin came out most okay.

Is it just me or is that an awful badly written piece.

Seems like a good outcome though.

Endeavor to persevere.

With the brim pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet,
Machine guns ready to go

Are you ready, hey, are you ready for this?
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust

Alleged Panama City home invader shot and killed

Posted May 26, 2020 at 1:35 PM

PANAMA CITY — A Georgia man was shot and killed after he allegedly broke into a Panama City home and started attacking a woman Tuesday morning.

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have identified the man as 31-year-old Nathan Jerrell Edwards. The attacked woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The incident took place shortly after the sheriff’s office received a 911 call around 6:05 a.m. on Tuesday in reference to a home invasion burglary at 2307 Mound Ave. Deputies responded and found a man, shot, on the floor inside the home and a handgun on the kitchen counter. The man, Edwards, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The residents, a man in his 70s and a woman, who were not married but own the house, stated that the male resident had been outside in front of the home when he saw a man walking down the street, acting erratically. The man, identified as Edwards, was staying in a short-term rental about a block away from where the incident began.

The man was screaming and swearing and, according to witnesses, acting very aggressively and erratically, a sheriff’s office press release states. The male resident went into the garage and then into the house to get away from the man, but he followed, beating on the door to the house.

The man then went to the front door, which was glass, and broke it to gain entry.

The man knocked the woman resident to the ground, got on top of her and started beating her on the head, the press release states.

The male resident stated he felt he could not physically stop the intruder, so he went upstairs to get his firearm.

“He shot the firearm multiple times, ending the threat,” the press release states.

BCSO Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Unit are at the residence to continue the investigation and process the scene.

You mean like when it says that neighbors say this is "very usual" for the area, but their direct quotes say the opposite??

I mean, I suppose that extra syllable "un-" can easily fall out (sarcasm), but do we not have professional editors who proofread these things? Roll Eyes

Note to self: practice shooting from the balcony. Shoot the burglars, best thing to do with them.

Are reporters rewarded with Stylebook credits for using the term ' allegedly '?

I guess there's always the possibility that the guy was patiently standing in front of the glass door after ringing the bell, and an errant interdimensional vortex sucked him violently through and into the living room.

I'm so confused. I'm thinking the "editors" are now communist party censors, making sure nothing reaches print that might undermine the cadre. I saw no mention of the race of the deadified. From that I just assume he was an unarmed black man. Lets just call him room temperature.

Going in likely saved the mans life, if the newly departed gets to him outside there is no running to get the wheelgun just take a beating from a disturbed young black dude.

Why dont the mentally disturbed like to stay on their meds?
