Side storm door, which has been a problem for years, has finally broken for good.

It was a good metal and glass door bought from a local hardware store. I'm not sure that the doorframe that it is mounted into is fully square. Over time it became very difficult, and no matter of tune=ups could help it. It would pop at the hinges, close awkwardly, and, to complete the evolution of problems, today the bottom hinge shredded and fell into pieces.

I'd like to start over, and have been advised to work with another store that has carpenters that will come out, measure, and craft the door custom, wood, glass.

This door gets strong four season exposure, so I'm a bit concerned about the durability of wood. I'm even more concerned about getting it installed correctly.

What should I look for? Where should I really go to get this taken care of optimally?

Look into Forever doors, they are GTG, but fairly pricey.

Do you need wood for the look? Fiberglass is much better. Will hold up and be less to maintain.

Sounds like you need someone that knows what they are doing to look at the job and install the door.

I would find some local contractors and get references.

Installing a door is fairly straight forward and not difficult for someone that knows what they are doing. It is also easy to screw up if they don't know what they are doing or are trying to get it done quickly.

Where are you? Someone here may have a recommendation on an installer.

Great answers!
I think fiberglass sounds like a good solution.

Time to explore more options

Having trouble finding a local resource for "forever doors".

I wonder if there is a place that could do the garage door by it at the same time. It needs replacing too (60 year old wood garage door).

Get a fiberglass or aluminum, Dade County approved impact door and frame. Fiberglass is a good choice...….The last one I bought a few years back was $650 for the door and frame and installation with tapcons 2" into the concrete.
