Pen guys, a simple question...
I'd like to start using one of my ink cartridge pens. Every now and then.

Would you please educate me and tell me in what position should it be while not in use?

My past experience is that if i let it standing up, they dry. If it's looking down it drains itself by gravity.

I'm sure there must be even an etiquette on how to do this.

In my neck of the woods summer is around the corner. Soon my eyes will become dry just by being awake...

I'm assuming you are talking about a fountain ink cartridge (Cross, Mont Blanc).

I've always been told to lay them nib up for short term storage (lunch to a couple hours), horizontal for medium storage (overnight to weekend) and to empty/clean for long term storage (more than 2 days without use). You can save the cartridge by placing tape over the opening, if you want.

Most cartridge pens I've seen have a cap that helps to prevent drying out, but again placing it horizontal is the best position to prevent leaks or draining of the nib.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I'm closer to permanent storage than occasional use.

Now all of mine are emplty after a thorough rinse.
Found that the ink contents of the cartridges was part of the caps in most cases. Filthy deal...

Thank you, will use one at a time and retrain myself.
