...that Hitler launched the "Battle of the Bulge" almost 80 years ago. For all of you who endured unending misery and endless calls for sacrifice: THANK YOU. It is all too common these days to hear a bunch of snot-nose punks go on endlessly about how evil our country is. But just know that there are those who have not forgotten your sacrifice; and will not forget as long as we live. - Fred

It was looking pretty grim until the cloud cover broke. Once the air power was unleashed, Hitler's dream of pushing the allies back was over for good.

My father was 3rd Army, worked in some sort of Supplies group, and was with Patton for the forced march to Bastogne, but didn't participate in the fighting.

Still, he never told me about it. I figured it out after he died.

I imagine the cold was nearly unbearable.

Just before the Wuhan Wheeze hit, I ran into a guy in his 90's wearing an Airborne cap. Not being one to miss an opportunity, I asked him about it. Turns out he never bailed out of a plane, but was in Airborne gliders for Operation Market Garden and a couple others. Eighty-Second Airborne!

He was standing within a few feet of him when Gen. McAuliffe said "Nuts!" to the German officer demanding surrender. He witnessed the whole interaction!

What an honor it was to listen to him!

Careful now with that talk! I understand that the airborne troops there didn't consider it a rescue.
