<<<THIS IS AN UP-DATE TO THIS PRIOR THREAD>>> This thread inspired me to post my comments about the 45th anniversary of the Mt. Saint Helens eruption and my knowledge of Barry Voight's participation in the geological studies. My apologies for the cumbersome reposting but I thought others may enjoy the contributions previously made on this subject. I now better understand how I should have performed the bump of the prior thread.

Interesting recollections, but the “41 years ago” in the thread title confused me until I got to the last page. ![]() ► 6.0/94.0 To operate serious weapons in a serious manner.

I was living in Ellensburg, Washington at the time. What a display of the power of the natural world. Silent

Stayed on my uncle’s farm and ranch in north central Washington that summer. Was not a lot of fun. Wasn’t there for the big one but there were a lot of smaller eruptions that summer. Ash got into everything and played hell with the machinery. If it rained it turned into a slushy concrete. The sky turning dark in the middle of the day really messed with the animals and there was a lot of strange behavior on their part. It was kind of fun at first, but it got old really quick. I was on duty but we didn't get hit by ash, most went NE to E. My dad had a place pretty close to the mountain and I tried to get up there when I got off the next morning but the ash was to deep. I think I finally got up there several weeks later and his neighbor showed me photos of ash balls bigger than basket balls that dropped all over the place.
