Took the "04" Lesaber in to get a new thermostat put in.

Turns out that the cowl ( for lack of a better word) above the engine comes off very easy , to get to the thermostat .

but !
way to the back ,above the motor , under the front of the windshield ,
is the perfect place in the whole garage ,for a mouse nest .

Mine had a saucer sized nest with dried grass weeds , four kinds of seed, in it.

If you have not had the hood up and the cowl off in a while, you may want to take a peek in there.

I actually don't know this part's proper nomenclature either. I just call them "beauty covers." Some have soundproofing material in them without which you'd hear a "whooshing" sound in the intake, but this one doesn't. And yes, vermin do like to nest in there. Did they chew any wiring?

Engine cover is what I've always heard it referred as.

Cowl, would be the panel at the base of the windshield just behind the rear edge of the hood, where the wiper arms typically attach. Not typically easily removed.

Engine cover or shroud. thanks for bringing this up. My son's '15 Ford Fusion 2.0 has a cover about that size. We'll look to see if there are any unwelcome residents.

wee looked at the wires and hoses, could find no damage,
but we did not get underneath.
