Don’t stay anywhere around the Hobby airport area. Also avoid Gunspoint. Is that mall still even open? As others have said the Galleria area is good. One of my favorite hotels I stayed at very regularly is the Royal Sonesta. Excellent hotel. When I stayed while working in the private sector, we had a special rate as our corporate office was in Houston and we used them. Now that I am in the government, I get a government rate. So they might be a little pricey otherwise unless you find a discount, but a fantastic hotel. Sonesta Hotel Website NRA Benefactor Life Member

The mall, largely no. There's a gym & i think part of the food court. Rumor I heard is that as soon as the gym lease expires, they're going to level it, with the gym being rebuilt as a standalone. They recently built some sort of housing/hotel in the back parking lot on the BW8 side. The Enemy's gate is down.

When I worked investigations in the private sector for a major retail company, they had a store there along with many other very bad areas of Houston. Going to that mall was interesting to say the least and every time I went, I heard about someone who got mugged in the parking lot the day before. Bad place. NRA Benefactor Life Member

I lived in Clear Lake, south of Houston and when I had friends come in we’d stay downtown at the Sam Houston or Magnolia Hotel and eat dinner downtown and walk to a Stro’s game. Never had an issue and plenty of great places for food. NRA Life Member "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Teddy Roosevelt
