Restored plane was on tour. Took a flight on it today, very cool. All wood inside, leather seats. More comfortable than modern planes. Had a great day for it, not a cloud in the sky.

Cool. My dad took me on an exhibition flight in the early 1960's when I was maybe 10? at a northern IL or WI air show, probably Oshkosh.

Late 1960's for me. EAA show at Dupage Airport, lost the pictures I took decades ago, unfortunately.

BTW, it was the most uncomfortable plane I was ever in, unlike Lord Vaalic, but I'd bet it was the same one.

Very cool memory.

If it was 1969 or earlier, that could have been at AirVenture in Rockford before the move to Oshkosh.

It is a great ride isn’t it. Loved every minute of it. Here is my son in Sept. ‘14 when he was twelve before takeoff. He even got to sit in the co-pilot’s seat and work the controls a little bit!!!

One of these days I want to fly in a B17.
Ten years ago it was 400 dollars, I don't care what it costs today,
I'll pay it.

My dad did that about 8 years ago and had a similar experience.

I got to buy a ride about 2015 or 2016 or so on the "Fly The Ford" at Sundance Airport (NW OKC area @ Piedmont). Whoever "Fly The Ford" is/was did an amazing job. The pilots were amazing to talk with. They knew the history of it and told great informative and entertaining stories. IIRC there were a couple pilots there that they took turns flying it at this event.

It was a lot of fun, I greatly enjoyed it.

Maybe not that exact one but the interior photos are cool.

The tri-motor brings back fond memories of my childhood. Island Airlines had 3 of them until probably the middle 70s, they were transportation from Port Clinton to South Bass Island and the other islands. I believe all 3 were involved in crashes at one time or another and that put an end to them here. We have a great museum at the airport here where they’ve restored several of them. I lived on Catawba island at the time and remember them flying over the house many times a day. Now they give rides at the museum and I can still tell when it’s in the air, very distinct sound. Low and slow when they are in the air here. I’ve flown to South Bass, Middle and North Bass and Rattlesnake over 200 times but never had the chance to fly in the “Tin Goose” as it is affectionately called here. The closest I came was in an Otter they were using for a while and then Cesnas

It's likely to be the same one I flew in so many years ago, but at that time, it had wicker seats, not padded like in your pics.

You're probably right. Rockford is a lot closer to Niles IL.

That is truly amazing. Very cool to say the lease. I'd pay real money for a ride like that. A very nice treat indeed.

Real money in the late 1960's was $3.00 if I remember right. My brother and I had about that much apiece and had to decide if we wanted to ride the Tri-Motor or a helicopter. It wasn't hard to decide.

I flew in a B17 from Boeing Field in 2019. My wife bought me the ride for my birthday. It was a great experience, but that plane crashed a few months later with 7 dead.
