Color me cautious – almost certainly over cautious. But I ordered two bottles of iodine supplement:

Pure Encapsulations Iodine
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003...NY15EHP7W6FHAWQYX486

In case the increasing desperate Putin uses nuclear weapons somewhere in the world. They produce a radioactive isotope of iodine, I-131, that will disperse into the atmosphere. The human body will absorb I-131 into its thyroid gland if it’s short on ordinary iodine.

I might even have a more realistic use for the iodine supplement. I buy Morton’s Iodised salt. But my GP tells me to avoid salt because it raises blood pressure, so I seldom put that salt into my food nowadays. And doubt that I get enough iodine in my diet.

Iodine will make no difference in a nuclear war. Chernobyl type incident perhaps.

There would have to be a nuke in your general area for I-131 to be a concern.

For events that occur from radiological accidents and detonations you can ingest Potassium Iodide(KI) to protect your thyroid from absorbing the harmful radiation. I would suggest to get the real deal if you think you need it.

“ 4. What potassium iodide (KI) products are currently available?

Only KI products that are FDA-approved may be legally marketed in the United States. As of March 2022, these KI products are FDA-approved and are available without a prescription:

iOSAT tablets, 130mg, from Anbex, Inc.
iOSAT tablets, 65mg, from Anbex, Inc.
ThyroSafe tablets, 65mg, from BTG INTERNATIONAL, Inc.
Potassium Iodide Oral Solution USP, 65mg/mL, from Mission Pharmacal Company”

FDA info on Potassium Iodide KI

These can be purchased directly from the manufacturer, or through other internet sales, or local pharmacies.

Edit to add: Just checked ANBEX website and they have the 65mg tablets in-stock. You can order up to 10 packages.

Until about 6 weeks ago, you could get IOSAT quite affordably from Walmart and amazon.

For those of us on the fringe of cities likely to get bombed, it should make a decent difference in the couple of weeks following the inevitable attacks.

I was a bit too young but, had plenty of friends who were serving during the Cold War 80's. They all said, nuclear weapons was not a concern, it goes off, there's nothing anybody, anyone can do, it'll be over with. Chemical weapons however was the big fear, plenty of exercises at Graf and Hfels was done in MOPP gear.

I live near the Limerick Nuclear Generating Station in Limerick, PA and the local governments regularly distributed the iodine tablets to anyone who wanted them.

My plan if that thing blows or goes critical is to stay put and below ground. No way I’m getting caught out in the open with all the other panicked sheep, the roads would be absolutely crazy. Like the scene in that movie Deep Impact.

I used to live 15 miles north of MacDill AFB in Tampa, and now live about 15 miles from Ft Hood’s main gate….I really don’t expect to survive anything less than a small tactical nuke….and Ft. hood is a huge base with a lot of tanks and Apache helicopters…I imagine it’s gonna be on the first wave..and they are gonna be big.

Soooooo….hope it’s quick and painless.
