Ban on carrying guns in post offices ruled unconstitutional by U.S. judge
quote:
A federal judge in Florida on Friday ruled that a U.S. law that bars people from possessing firearms in post offices is unconstitutional, citing a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling from 2022 that expanded gun rights.

U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, an appointee of Republican former President Donald Trump in Tampa, reached that conclusion in dismissing part of an indictment charging a postal worker with illegally possessing a gun in a federal facility.

Mizelle said that charge violated Emmanuel Ayala's right to keep and bear arms under the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment, saying "a blanket restriction on firearms possession in post offices is incongruent with the American tradition of firearms regulation."

Post Offices never were a place that should have qualified for this kind of treatment. There is no heightened risk above your local convenience store.
The shootings I can recall involved employees with domestic problems and other personal issues, not the general public.
They don’t provide any security so the body count is worse than where the victims can carry.
This is long overdue.

Great outcome!

The article didn't list the attorneys. Anyone know if the attorneys were funded by GOA, SAF, FPC, etc?

Anybody know if this ruling applies just to PO employees, or to the rest of us? And can it be appealed.

Leave your firepower in the car when you visit the post office.

Yeah, caution seems the best approach. I agree.

Yeah, mine stays in the car, but folks package metal parts to ship all the time. I have always shipped long guns through them. They have metal detector at your PO?

IIRC, The Postal Service also considers guns in their parking lots to be a violation.
