What's wrong with you fellow Carolinians?? Nobody's mentioned collards, giblet gravy, or oyster dressing. Big Grin Must be an eastern NC thing. Mac and cheese was never on our menu either.

Ours is kinda different every year, I cook 1 turkey, in my Orion cooker and my BIL smokes one, both are delicious. All other relatives bring dishes to pass, they always vary, but are in the lists above.

Deserts are pretty much standard, and never get eaten much, usually taken home with family members to be enjoyed later

Thanksgiving dinner is a favorite of mine and although I was brought in New England, I've had southern and midwest versions of the meal many times. I love it all!!!

In Louisiana:

Dirty Rice (rice dressing)
Snap beans
Sweet Potato Pie
Stuffed Melaton (pear squash)

Turkey should be wild if at all possible.

I’ve lived in Montana for 45 years but earlier in life I lived in New Jersey, Wisconsin, California, Washington and Idaho. The favorite sides in all of these states was Beer.

I'll be honest with you all.

I'll eat turkey, but it's not in my top 300 things to eat. It's just flavorful to me. I do like all the other dishes that go along with it.

If I could, and I can have my way, I'd rather have Brisket and Ribs instead of turkey. I do like all the other traditional sides of Thanksgiving.

If you ever wander by my house for Thanksgiving, be prepared, lol.

My favorite is mashed potatoes and gravy, but I do like me some rolls. Is that a side?

I'm laughing about sweet potato casserole for TN.

I was born here, and I believe I've never had it.
But, my Dad was a Type 1 Diabetic, diagnosed in 1950. So we never had anything sweet growing up (oddly enough, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1985). We always had regular mashed potatoes as our main side. I noticed that this was a standard for Illinois, and since my Mom grew up in Chicago, this makes a lot of sense. Now, I also enjoyed stuffing, and used to enjoy that a lot when I was young.
Now, Thanksgiving is something I just have to deal with...

No, silly! Brown gravy is like Frank's Redhot Sauce; I put that shit on everything.

My favorite side is Mlinci covered in gravy.
Pronounced Nincies, they are a type of cracker that you roll out, baked in the oven on a pizza stone with a sprinkle of salt. Let sit covered a couple days before the meal. Break them up to bite size Either drench with boiling water or boil for a few mintues, drain and mix with butter. Serve covered in gravy. OMG!
They are so good that your tongue will beat the top of your head off.

Usual sides are scalloped potatoes and mashed yams baked with marsh mellow topping. I make home made cranberry sauce, one with Grand Marnier(sweeter) and one with bourbon(leans towards tart)...

I am going to have to find a recipe for the sweet potato casserole. Told my wife I am so burned out on green bean casserole I could puke.
