Zip Stitch -- First Aid Kit item. Anyone have experience? Login/Join

Saw these on my linkedin feed and looked them up on Amazon. Looks like they are commercially available, and some of the typical folks have them available. Anyone have any experience with the Zip Stitch? Looks like mixed reviews for cut closures for up to 1.5". Would like to hear if anyone has any personal experience with them, and whether they work as expected. I am considering putting them in my FA kit.

Please be more specific in the title of your thread. Why are you posting this topic? Explain it in the title, so people don't have to click in to find out what about "Zip Stitch" is your issue.

Funny you should mention this. I’ve been looking to add a couple of these to my first aid kit. They’re an option to sutures and suturing.

Interesting, but I agree with the reviews, should get at least 2 for the price.

Still tempted though...

I was going to get some for my first aid kit but they're like $30 each.

Uh, no thanks.

You can get a box of 100 butterfly closures for like $6.

That's 500 for $30.

You could close 125 similar wounds, compared to one with Zip Stitch.

Or, Superglue is even cheaper. Wink

Transpore is my go-to emergency tape. I've also used chrome tape.

Wrote about chrome tape on the blog, tagged 'emergency stitches'. One day I awoke to 100+ hits from Pakistan. Expected the NSA to come a'knocking on my door.

I have closed a number of cuts by pinching and taping and isolating the injury from stress and movement. The Zip Stitch thingy does the same thing for about $29.98 more.

It's a good idea but I'll stick with butterflies or Superglue.

The skin around the wound must be dry/clean... uhhh... If I have a cut and the bleeding has stopped - why would I need stitches/anything else? At that point a properly applied dressing will do what's needed.

We actually use them quite a bit in the ER here. They're great. Their limitation is that it has to be a fairly straight laceration to work.

That's a good idea. If you have a laceration which needs to be closed and just band-aids, you can increase a band-aid's holding power exponentially with a pair of scissors. Three of these hold pretty well. sorry about the size,

If you're having trouble getting an adhesive bandage, butteryfly closure, or tape to stick to the skin, apply Tincture of Benzoin to the skin beforehand. It makes the adhesive adhere much better.

I carry single-use ampules in my first aid kits.

I guess it’s cool...just pricey.

I wouldn’t use it in an emergency. Also, just think if you apply it wrong...you’re out $30.

3M Steri Strips are cheaper...so is a bottle of whiskey and sewing kit.

Thanks Rogue, I've been wanting some single use Benzoin swabs for steri-strips and butterfly closures for a while and forgot to order them.

Zip-Stitch is a REALLY overpriced alternative to the above and superglue.

At the price, and for the size, I'd pass. Like many said there are cheaper alternatives that work just as well and have for decades.

The concept is quite cool though. They need to get that price down to be marketable large scale.

Wow, that is a neat (clean, straight edges, etc.) wound. Tape, surgical glue and go I say.

Loctite makes a good surgical glue. It was used on me to seal trocar wounds from surgery. Worked really well. Quick heal and scars are hard to see.
