This year's diorama project.

In our last installment Big Grin I had added some real estate, expanded the wooded area and built a pond, all detailed elsewhere. What to do with the long narrow strip shown has eluded me for nearly a year.

Several folks have mentioned adding a train to the diorama. I wasn't loving the idea of an actual train for a few reasons, but it finally occurred to me that a section of abandoned track would work, and give me an excuse to build a trestle which I've always thought would be cool.

I carved off one corner of the 4 inch layer of foam board I use as a base and covered it with plaster to simulate rock walls. I carved out abutments for the trestle bents and added some color washes and vegetation.

Then it was a matter of building the trestles, laying ties and ballast and detailing the surrounding area.

Down in the gorge below the trestle a couple of hobos are sitting around a fire. There are flickering LEDs in the barrel to simulate the flames.

That's some great rock work and a good use of the corner. Well done, sir.

Big Grin

Did you know some whackos actually use those for machining?

Not a train, but am I the only one who thinks a scale model of ryan81986's speeder would look great on that abandoned section of track?

Funny you should mention that, my wife said a rail speeder (actually "You know, one of those little cart thingies") would look good.

I shall have to find some pics and figure out some dimensions. Shouldn't be too hard to fab one up.

You create marvelous worlds with your art. If you could figure out a way to video your process, I'm sure you could get a little money from YouTube. I watch stranger things sometimes. I watched 20 minutes last night of some dude living inside a Chevy Comaro.

That is excellent.

Dioramas have fascinated me since the days of the Monogram-brand WW2 model kits that used to include color pamphlets with diorama examples.

That’s some awesome stuff you’re doing. I love looking at dioramas. If I had the extra space I’d be building one myself.

This "tour" doesn't show the latest updates, but covers most of it.

Add a drone over the whole thing, something nefarious, but again farmers can use them vs crop dusting planes.

Of course a small PHPaul with a Benelli shot gun aimed at the drone would be cool!, Maybe a little smoke coming out of the barrel..

But the smoke from the barrel is only good if the drone is trailing smoke and heading down. Wouldn’t want to make it look like small PHPaul missed!

Paul, that’s a pretty cool thing you have built. Quite awesome.

Have you seen the film, Ronin? I thought of this scene when I saw your thread.
