I'm a sucker for the Holidays
I just watched Elf, released 2003 with Will Ferrell and James Caan, I watch it every year. There are others I watch, like Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott, and some of the claymation originals Rudolph, Santa Claus is coming to town, and the like.

Yep, I'm a SUCKER for the Holidays, and I admit it openly and without shame. As far as I can tell I still have my man card in the front pocket of my wallet.

Yep, it's bad.

I got a “Shitters Full” tshirt but I probably won’t wear it when anyone else is around. Just got it to aggravate SWMBO.

I'm also in that club. I love the Holidays. I already have the trees up and lit. Usually they go you the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I'll be going to the hospital tomorrow for a procedure for kidney stones. So, since I probably won't feel like it after tomorrow, I got them up Thursday night.

The puppy freaked out, he wouldn't leave it alone so the puppy playpen is around the tree now.

Haha! I have the t-shirt.
I know a guy whose network name is "shittersfull," too. Cool

I love "Elf" for Zooey Deschanel's singing voice ( Link 1, Link 2 ), and I'll watch the original (1966) "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at least three times. "Christmas Story?" Heck, yeah! Claymation Rudolph? You know it. Heck, we watched " Office Christmas Party " last night. That was good fun, if a bit rude. Wink

Beyond that, I'll say I'm not a fan of Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving, and I'm adamant that the Christmas tree doesn't go up before December 1. However, the local FM station does Christmas music 24/7, starting right after Thanksgiving... that's a great big NO for me.

God bless America.

I will have watched Elf about 11 times by New Years Day, it’s my wife’s favorite movie.

Another pretty good one is Christmas With The Kranks

My personal favorite is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

You have to watch on DVD

They cut out too much and censor too much when it’s played on the networks

We streamed it from MAX, so it should not have been the TV censored version. Clark giving the bird to the rednecks and Cousin Eddie’s famous line were definitely in there.

Some of the gags were unrelatable for my son. Trudging through the snow with a bow saw to find the perfect tree, for example.

With my kids born and raised in Florida, they really have no clue about the holiday season.

When my sister's kids were little we always gathered at her place for Thanksgiving. Of course the kids were anxious to get the Christmas decorations going, but the rule was that the Christmas boxes don't come down from the attic until the Thanksgiving dinner is finished and all cleaned up. So for one day a year the kids were enthusiastic about helping clean up the dinner table. After the Christmas boxes were down, we would sit down and watch Christmas Vacation. My BIL and I both have most of it memorized.

Otherwise, I always watch at least one version of Scrooge (George C. Scott or Alastair Sim), Scrooged (Bill Murray), the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and the Charlie Brown Christmas show. Oh, and of course Die Hard!

The 24/7 Christmas music gets old really fast. I think there are about ten thousand different versions of Winter Wonderland out there. I remember when it didn't start until 2 or 3 days before Christmas. Over a couple decades it incrementally got pushed up until finally it was starting on Black Friday. Then last year when I finally escaped from Portland, my moving day was November 10. I arrived here at 6 AM that day, to snow on the ground and 24/7 Christmas music on the radio.

I won't touch anything to do with Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. Call me a crank Smile

Elf is a classic all to it's own.
Haven't rewatched yet but I will.
The singing scene with Zooey is priceless. Cool

Watched Die Hard with my 13yo son. I had to explain that the touch screen sign in at the beginning of the movie was new technology back then.

Then I started explaining the bullpup the one bad guy has and my son says “that’s a Steyr AUG”.

Smart kid right there. Attention to detail. A bright future for a kid with a brain like that.
