golddotSpeaker suggestion
I have just bought a new Sony RVCR, 5.1, will be looking to upgrade my current (10 yr old) sony 4.1 setup (wired). I only watch a few movies and really looking for sound QUALITY rather than movie sound, I would like to spend no more than 500 total and would really like a nice set of floor/bookshelf. My room has very good acoustics and is about 20x30' with a concrete floor.
Any suggestions, I do not blast my music loud , but prefer it clean and buttery , my music preference is jazz and old school Sinatra.
THANKS!!
thanks, shawn

Hamden106I have been real pleased with my ELAC bookshelf speakers. I pair them together with McIntosh that don't give everything at low volume. The ELAC fills in for them. But turn things up and the McIntosh come on by themselves. Another good bookshelf set is Klipsch

LS1 GTOI also have a set of Elac and extremely impressed for $150/ pair. If your budget is $500, but a decent sub to go with them and you'll be very happy.

My thought is the Elac are, currently, over-engineered not unlike when Cerwin-Vega came out with a surround sound system (five speakers plus 8" powered sub) for a dealer cost of $100 ($175 MSRP). They were so inexpensive people thought them cheap.

grecoI have a pair of Bose speakers and some Klipsch. Both powered by Crown amps. I find I need to use Analysis Plus cables to get the best fidelity and clarity.
(analysisplusinc.com)or(analysis-plus.com).
My old McIntosh also sounds better with them.

goose5All of our suggestions are subject to personal taste. Go out and audition a bunch of speakers and buy what you like the best. You're the one who has to listen to them.

FusterncMy recommendation is check out Paradigm, ADS (used), and Monitor Audio (Bronze or Silver). Listen to them on Youtube if not found locally for a good idea of sound. Definitely check out the used market also. Some amazing speakers out there that are steeply discounted.

How in the world do you listen to speakers on YouTube to get any idea of how they sound?

You're going to get every suggestion under the sun. Mine is Definitive Technology. Best bet is to get thee to a high-end audio store so you can listen in person. Take your favorite Sinatra cd with you.

Let me guess, you thought this was a thread about a motivational speaker.

arcwelderWe're having a problem with vague and sometimes misleading thread titles. Threads with one or two word titles have been getting locked. I'm trying to be helpful.
Folks please take the time to describe the reason you've posted a thread IN the title.

My sub and rears are Def Tech (my cousin owns an AV business and gets them for me at his cost.) They are fantastic speakers.
