So we went from discussing an animal’s being able to kill or harm the hunter which was what this thread started out as, to its being able to see or smell us and scamper away before we can get a shot. Please forgive me for believing we were still discussing the former. But yes, I agree it’s not like shooting an animal that’s confined in a pen, so you got me there. Roll Eyes

And yes, I have hunted and killed animals; quite a few, actually.

So you assumed that I was saying that Quail hunting wouldn't be hunting if the Quail didn't sometimes kill the hunter? I can see how you might make that mistake. Roll Eyes

Are we in agreement that often times the game gets the upper hand? A game animal that is able to kill a human is just one way they may get the upper hand is all I'm saying.

Good timing on your post, this being September 1st: Opening day for dove season in most states. The dove season supposedly accounts for the bulk of ammunition sold in this country to hunters and makes ammunition sales to civilians (non-military or other government agencies) profitable. Many dove hunters don't even practice more than a round (25 shots) or two of skeet or trap shooting in preparation of their hunt and end up missing something like 10-20 times for every bird they down.

Prior to COVID-19, I was shooting sporting clays or skeet 2-3 times a week and really enjoyed the challenge of using a .410 or 28 gauge gun to get my limit of 15 birds (Mourning doves and Whitewings) on opener. Unfortunately, I have to pass this opener, for the first time in 8 years. Frown If anyone here is out there today enjoying the season, I wish you a safe, happy, and successful hunt!
