Well. This isn’t good. Glad no one was hurt. This is where I order my department’s ammo.

http://rapidcityjournal.com/ne...-35db31a97f50.html#7My dept bought these reloads for the range many years ago. My 229 worked fine, but many other guys had problems. Those may have been the guys who shoot and lube once a year. At range time. Still, I kept an empty box as a reminder never to buy the stuff.

357fuzzThanks ikdr. Sigmund, I should have clarified. We used to use their ammo. Still have some of it for old times sake. Their 223 was/is good practice stuff. They are a distributor as well. My department uses Speer and some Federal. We order through Ultramax.

Yup.

Black Hills Ammo and Ultramax aren't far from each other either.
BATF will be investigating the cause of the fire.

I had all those links handy as I had sent emails to some pals. I was about to post here when someone beat me to it!
In my 12 years as a reserve LEO we hit the range 2x, sometimes 3X/year with our 229R/40s (I shot more on my own). We used American Eagle most of the time, but the one time we got reloads it was 180gr UltraMax. I'll never use that stuff again, I'll buy reliable ammo (Blazer Brass, AE, etc.) anytime.

Please tell us Black Hills was not affected. I've never fired any, but I've read nothing but good about the company.
UltraMax...no great loss.
